Good morning everyone
have made the decision that I am going to designate my main shopping to one day a week. Yesterday I was out most of the day as I had lots of thing to do. Bank, buy bits pieces for DIY .. so I started in Iccceelland worked my way round all the big supermarkets seeing what was on offer or YS and ended up knowing exactly what I needed when I arrived with my list at Liddl.
It certainly showed that a bit of extra leg work will certainly pay of as each shop has its own weekly offers. I stocked up on a few basics like Weetabix and saved money on fresh food.
I was able to buy 2 Hovis Granary for 38p at Mr. TEES (I had one on my list normal price £1.25) plus lots of salad and veg reduced. Cheese was another item on my list and I was delighted when I spied 400g of very good local cheese reduced to £2.46. I bought 2 and froze one.
So spending is as follows...
£3.60 Iceeeland
£5.21 Mand s ... all reduced items bacon, prawn salad, bean salad, desserts marked down to pennies too
£33.24 Mr TEEES lots of YS items
£18.93 Lidl.
Also picked up at b and m some Christmas bits pieces from a separate budget. £2 there
Put fuel in car at a small local station
I also called at a chicken processing plant and bought lots of frozen chicken fillets, thighs and 2 single chickens (yesterdays date) for £12. I cooked one of those last night for todays lunch and dinner. Leftovers for tomorrow lunch too. I also gave one away to a friend.
Felt shattered by the time I got home but I don't need anything more but milk until next week.
TOTAL SPEND YESTERDAY £72.98...a big spend but I am well stocked up on a lot of items.
I know it was tiring to do all on one day but it was worth it. I am happy with my purchases
I just need to make sure I preplan what we are going to be eating and be sure that I have a good list made out for next weeks trapse
also returned some meat I bought on NYears Eve .. bought large supermarket spent £33 mostly on meat and when I opened 2 of the butchers counter packages they were disgusting. So into the freezer well wrapped I may say and got my £7.83 refunded so can adjust my monthly total to reflect this. Not even a sorry !!0 -
£38.20 spent yesterday.
The total should have been slightly higher, I'm currently living with my bf while waiting for my house purchase to go through. I've offered to buy all the food as payment towards rent. He went to the shops for burger supplies for my birthday lunch taking my card, but frustratingly he insists on not taking my money and paid himself!!
I've no idea what he spent so I can only go off my totals...£67.25 spent so far.

Hi,I know I'm a little late to this challenge this month but I would love to join please. There are 5 of us in our house (2 adults, 3 kids) and I want to only spend £100 this month. This is really tight but I need to save as much cash as possible to put towards shifting some debt. I have full cupboards and a full freezer, (bought too much food before christmas) so with some creative meal planning i'm hoping to need to buy only fruit veg bread and milk for most of the month. So far this month I have spent £2.mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊0

Hi. I spent £77 on Sat 2 Jan in ALDI. It more of what I expected but we bought lots of meat. We made bolognesa for dinner and frozen for 4 dinners for 4 and 2 DH lunches.
Mon 4 Jan £2.35 in crisps and diet coke - I didnt take any snack to work and had bad night with a DS ill - I have to watch this. 2.20 in bananas.
Today Dinner is roast chicken with yrkshire pudding and steammed vegs. I expect to have lefovers from the chicken for at least one meal more.
I am not good in the kitchen so I have lots of questions
The chicken weights 2.088 kg how long should it be in the sloww cooker?
Can I freeze the leftover chicken? should I shred it and put it in a bag - it wont be dry?
Thanks

Slow cookers are very forgiving so I wouldn't worry about time vs. weight. Just bung it in...it'll be fine. If you freeze it just shredded it'll be fine put into a sauce and simmered. The alternative is to make a pie/curry straight away from the chicken then freeze the whole lot.
I used to put my chicken in for 8-10 hours on low, or on High for 4-5 hours.0 -
we are just £5 short of the total budget now; not ideal but work able. I have most things we could need in the freezer it should just be a case of topping up on bread and cheese oh and biscuits for oh's lunch box.
We got engaged Christmas Eve so I want to trim the budget back as much as possible now to add that little bit extra to eth savings************************************

Afternoon all,
Not sure how this month is going to pan out as I discovered this morning that the freezer door had been left ajar and everything had gone soft. Cannot even batch cook as our main oven broke last week!
So, now in process of defrosting freezer fully, and have now placed an internet grocery shop to replenish. So I am now 17p over my monthly budget and it is only the 5th!
Off to work on a menu plan for the month.
