Hi
I am moving to London this Summer. There are 3 already with a possibility of becoming 4. Our price range would be £1200PCM for the 3 of us and £1600PCM for the four of us.
I've had a look at a few places, Battersea, Clapham, Tooting etc but need some advice.
Where would be the Nicest area available for this kind of money?
Transport in the area preferable.
Thanks in advance

Hi, Tobias, where you live will entirely depend where you need to get to....
Do you have a job already? Which are of london is it in?
You may as well add the cost of transport to the rent (this way you can work out cost efficiency) as its abysmally expensive in london.I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!!0 -
It is a career choice. For my proffession i have to be in and around most central parts of london at any time. I guess i won't be travelling an awful lot but if i do it will only be a zone stop on the tube i guess.
So i suppose any areas that include a Tube would be nice.0 -
This thread a while ago was all about someone moving to London and where should they live etc. You may want to have a look to see if there was anything relevent to you mentioned

yeah had a look but completely different situations really.
Are there any places that are safe and half decent for that kind of money?0 -
Yeah, you'll need to look around quite a lot though as a budget of £1600pcm is at the bottom end of the market. I'm living in a group of 4 and paying £2000pcm for a very nice place in a decent part of Hammersmith, so you should be able to find something cheaper in a similar area. Try looking in Clapham, Putney up to Wimbledon (although that's getting far out) and areas of North London like Finchley.
Other areas that might be worth considering are Shepherds Bush, Brixton, Balham, and Acton."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Are all those places decent then? Obviously i have been given places to avoid like the plague.
Which would be your top 5 places to look for a house in London based on Area only?0 -
I have been told to try and stay south of the river also. Finchley looks nice but what is the area like as a whole?
Also wimbledon would be fine as long as its on a tube.
Anymore suggestions?0 -
Ealing Broadway is worth a look...it's safe, has a decent enough shopping area, but best of all it's on two tube lines...Central and District and as it's the first stop you'll more than likely get a seat every morning to read your paper. It also has a train station which brings you in to Paddington. It's Zone 3 so not the cheapest for tube fares, but then again not the most expensive either.
Wimbledon is a fab place, so is Putney though Putney is more central while Wimbledon is definitely rather posh (ie at the more expensive end of the market). I would move to any of these 3 places right now this minute given the opportunity.0 -
Ealing is a good suggestion. Wimbledon and areas inbetween Putney and Wimbledon are good to look at.
Finchley is nice, it depends which part. Ideally West Finchley, or a nice area of East Finchley (getting nearer Highgate). Lived up that way for most of my life, and can't complain. It's not the best place for going out in, but you're on the Northen line and can get into town no problem.
A top five would be something like:
Clapham, Ealing, Putney, Wimbledon, Finchley
also consider Sheperds Bush, Hammersmith, Fulham, Balham etc..."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
thanks for your help so far. Ill look at Ealing asap. Wimbledon seems very nice too.0
