Capital One Classic Credit Card - I may get rejected!

Options
Hi Guys

i need to hire a car and noticed (just today) that most hire places want credit cards for deposits, (shows how long it has been since i last hired a car!)

anyway, i don't have a credit card at the moment, not since i was at uni, that one got cut up as i swore not to use them again. ( didnt got in debt though)

so now im thinking of starting fresh and building my credit score, i have searched these forums and found a few that i can apply for

now i don't have bad credit score, in the past i have been refused credit because of errors in my credit report. My father and brother were both on my report holding me back, so i had them corrected (this was in March 2007) since then i have not applied for credit and today i have applied for a Capital One credit card, they say they decide within 1 minute, but i got a screen saying that they have to check some details and will write to me within 7 days! - is this another way of saying no? or is there a chance of them accepting my application?

now i have doubts, the only debt i have is a Student Loan, i am on elect roll, have 2 phone contracts, been living at same addess for 26 years, same bank for 12 years. My credit report is now clean (since i got my brother and father taken off me)

i just hope i made the right choice in applying for a capital one instead of a Aqua or a Vanquis card.

if i do get rejected, is there any way i can appeal to Capital One?

thanks in advance!

  • I would ask your bank where your salary is credited.
They should be able to tell you whether you would be accepted without having to make a credit search first.

If they say no I would have another look at your credit files.

I just applied last night for my husband to do some more tarting and we have a 100% perfect credit score and also got the screen where they will get back to me within 7 days.

I had the same with the Virgin and the Natwest 0% offers a month ago but still got accepted.

We already had a capital One a year ago which I then tarted to GE Money. I cannot see a problem coming our way.

We will have to see as the lenders are all tightening the belts and the rates are going up plus they will not lend as much and as easily as 12 months ago.

Don't worry, I got accepted for that card, so I am confident you will. Maybe they randomly review people's applications to ensure the system refuses the wrong kind of people – and you're the unlucky one who had their application checked. If, for some reason, you get refused, simply apply for the Aqua card.

    Best of luck!

    just a quick update

i got a call today from capital one

i wasnt at home but they spoke to my brother, he told me that they wanted to ask some more questions, my brother said ring back later but they said no its ok they will send me a letter instead

hmm, will update when the letter arrives
  • bigup, I am sure you will get approved. When I applied a few years ago when my credit file was pretty shabby I had the same experience and they gave me a card. My wife's finances which have only just got straightened out was also approved in the same way about 3 months ago.

just a quick update, i got a letter from them, which said i needed to send them "proof of date of birth", either a driving license or a passport.

just a bit puzzled by their request

has anyone had the same thing?

Standard practise unless you have something to hide.

Just a thought, but you may have inputted your dob incorrectly (accidentally of course) when applying over the internet, and this could have been flagged up when doing the cra checks. It shouldn't be anything to worry about though.
