Going Solo after 30 years

OK, so it's reared it's head again as she saying enough's enough.

No infidelity or cash issues. She just wants out as she's unhappy with my side of the family and has been for years and wants to start afresh at 55.

So

We've been living together since April 88.

How do I/we split my monthly pension which I started paying into in 1978 and started to draw in June this year?

I figure it's as easy as she's not entitled to 9.3 years from the pension I'd built up prior to living together and split the other years between us as that's how long I paid into pension as couple.

So take pension figure I have and divide pension by 100 and multiply by number of years together to get the pension payment for her. :(

All other monies from house and savings would be split 50/50

Your thoughts please

You don't have to split everything 50/50.

You could keep all your pension and give her a larger portion of, say, money from the house.
  • OK. That's something I'm looking at.
But working on splitting every thing as evenly as possible. With the even split we'd both have a good income until state pension age.

Best to try to be fair cause i think she entitled to half of everything ,anyway why divide it by 100.00. ?

Not half the pension I receive as I said early I have 9.3 years in it before setting up together so therefore in my eyes not part of any settlement

Don't think you can say everything should be 50/50 except the bits you don't want to share.

  • Hi,

why does it always seem to be the male who has to divvy up his pension/assets?

Does the female not share her bits?

It's whoever is/has been the higher earner who ends up passing money over to the other partner.

The savings, pensions, etc of both partners have to be taken into account.

Best not to become too bitter :D
