Does it access my site via FTP?

If so - *I* can't access it so I doubt that anything else can.
No, it uses http, just like you would following links with a browser, except it 'clicks' links automatically and visits every page.

    OK, noted, thanks :)

    Hmm... lesson learned here.

I've kept my site tidy on-line, but not bothered too much with my working copy because I always expected to be able to download the whole lot in one lump and move it on.

Looks like I'll need to keep my working copy tidy in future (it's five megs bigger than my actual site).

Alternatively - I need to regularly download my entire site as it exists (once I've tidied it) and park it somewhere safe - like my backup drive.

I've always taken care not to lose stuff. I just never thought I'd be in a position where I have TOO MUCH.

    ho hum :)

    Hah!

Where's the YAACFI smiley when you need it??

    :embarasse

I just opened up TWO copies of my FTP software.

One is pointing at my "last known" saved listing for my OLD site...

..and the other is pointing at my NEW one.

While I can't do any transfers I can still read the lists and simply delete any files that show on my new one that aren't on my old one.

Ain't it great when you finally get enough coffee into your system to switch your brain on?

    :D

Ah, I'd already thought of that one but as you said you didn't have FTP access, I didn't bother mentioning it... no brownie points for me then! I use "last known good" lists all the time... very handy!

    This point is very important...

I do this after every change of every site I look after. I take a copy and dump the zip file into a folder on my C drive, then I have http://www.mozy.com/home to back that up offline every 4 hours. They do a completely free 2 Gigs of space (look for the orange box on the left half way down the page). It's very simple and full automatic.

This means in effect I have the live site, the backups that my host does every night, whatever is in my Dreamweaver cache (and there's often quite a lot if you look in "C:\Documents and Settings\ACCOUNTNAME\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Configuration\ServerConnections" or similar depending on your version), the backup on my PC, and an offline copy of that too. I reckon 5 places to look is enough for anybody!

Yeah, me too - MEGA blush!

Just 'cos I didn't have access didn't mean that I couldn't find out what I had there. And I always save my last server settings!

    This point is very important...

Yep. I must sort out off site backup. I'm safe enough unless my house burns down.

I'll save my cat (Sally) first - if she hasn't already done a runner, and then my system box :)

I'm not sure if I'll save beer or coffee next! :)
