Yes, I've used toasted sunflower seeds and I liked it. The kale can have a sharp taste to it. I think it might be good to mix it with chard or spinach which I think are sweeter. I haven't tried it though and the texture will be different but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Lots of cheese, give it a chance to melt, don't forget the garlic and a good slug of oil. I have added nutmeg too which is good.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
that sounds great, thanks
not sure it will be good for my diet but hey ho- prior planning prevents poor performance!

I made the spinach pesto only last week which GR describes. _pale_
It was too bitter & spinach tasting for my liking. I've made a pumpkin & spinach lasagne which was lovely. Also a pancake dish with white sauce over. That was nice too. I've got heaps & heaps & heaps in our veggie garden. Sigh.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
LOL We love it! But I think spinach tastes really sweet.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

I had rainbow swiss chard in last weeks box and have just used it like I would spinach, mainly wilted, or steamed, we like balsalmic vinegar on it. I have also used it to make GR's pesto recipe. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

The chards are the big thick mid rib. The green parts of the leaves can be used in exactly the same way as spinich or beet, the chards need to be cooked for a little longer. If you're using it as a plain veg then the best way is to slice the chards and shred the leaves; cook the chards in a very little boiling water with the lid on; after 3-5 mins add the leaves, replace the lid and cook for 1-3 mins more; drain and serve.
"The Cooks Garden" by Lynda Brown has 7 or 8 recipes; I don't know how to scan them all onto this thread and don't have time to copy them out longhand, but if you would like them then PM me your e-mail and I'' post them to you that way.0 -
Hi jamie,
This older thread might give you some ideas:
Chard - help need recipes!!
A good place to find recipes for unusual things in your vegbox is the vegbox recipe website. They have a page on swiss chard here

swiss chard is one of my favorite vegetables and is extremely full of goodness
either: chop and stir fry with other veg (do it last)
chop the leafy bits and cook like spinach
chop the stalks and cook like celery
chop it all and steam0 -
There are lots of recipes using swiss chard on the Riverford website (www.riverford.co.uk).
In short, you can do anything with chard that you can do with spinach, as others have already said.0
