I had some Swiss Chard delivered last week with the organic veg box. I wasnt sure what to do with it either so I made a lasagne with layers of chard, walnuts, pasta, tomato sauce (like Ragu etc or make your own) and a white sauce. Topped it off with a cheese and breadcrumb topping.

To prepare the chard, some say use the stalks, others say dont, I choose not to and I cut off the stalks, cleaned the leaves and gently simmered the chard in boiling water for a few minutes - I think they call it "wilted"It was really tasty, a bit like spinach really.

Went down really well with OH and would def. have again. :)

 Just got a generous amount of Chard in my organic box today. I have never had this before. Can I use it as a salad or is it better cooked?

Also got some broad beans, not sure about these either as my parents used the tinned variety which I hated. Any ideas how to make them more palatable?

Also more beetroot in the box today so I really must go make the chocolate and beetroot cake. :D

I've got some chard in my garden this year. I'm using it like spinach - shredding and adding to pasta sauces, lightly steaming and adding a bit of butter etc

Broad beans I can't help you with as I'm not too keen on them myself.

:T Thank you Pink have just printed off the recipe for tomato and chard pie and the recipe for chard with balsalmic vinegar.

Just got to find ideas for the broad beans, wonder if I could put them into a bean curry?

I love broad beans, but my children hate them. The only way I can get them to eat them is if they are disguised in a cheese and onion sauce.

Just found you a thread on broad beans: What do I do with ..............

yum i love broad beans, remember my grampy grpwing them and id eat them raw lol

someone posted a lovely recipe with broad beans in ,on the pasta thread the other day

as for the chard id wilt it and mix with some leftover mashed potato ,with some cubes of feta in too

then i either put in an oven dish top with grated cheese and pop in the oven

or shape into rounds, chill then bake / fry until golden

i do this with spinach and its yummy :)

heres thriftladys broad bean pasta recipe

"This was something I came up with for lunch on Saturday.

Cook some peas and broad beans together(fresh or frozen)
    Chop a handful of mint
Chop a block of feta into little cubes
Add all this to cooked pasta with a generous slug of lemon oil(Waitrose do a brilliant one-really lemony, even more lemony than lemons )
    Black pepper to taste."

also a fab recipe site is

http://www.riverford.co.uk/recipes/index.php?PHPSESSID=a94bd0de3509e6a3fa40c8f2dfa311cf it has 20 chard recipes and 33 broad bean recipes !

    enjoy :)
