O/S Daily Thread for Tuesday 1st December

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
Pinch punch and all that, I'mm looking forward to Tru's Christmas carols.
Can't sleep, so I got up and folded some washing. I'm hoping to snooze on the sofa soon.
DD2 is exhausted, she has 4 kids, 3 jobs, a dog & a poorly husband, I can't do much to help but I'm trying to think of a little treat I could give her.
One of the DGS's has a birthday next Tuesday, DD has suggested a clock with a fan on it that he's seen & liked so that is that sorted, I have a Spiderman card & wrapping paper too.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning, I couldn't sleep either so am pottering about and will go to work early to get a jump on the day.
Have cleaned the bathroom.
Cold and dark here, wet too. The one good thing about not being here in daylight in the week is that it does stop me from daily monitoring of my bulb pots, they are not going to grow that much on a daily basis, are they!I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
I'm also in the Wide Awake Club
Hester would your DD appreciate an hour of your time at her home, while she had a nap (maybe away from the poorly husband!)? It could be a minimal cost, maximum benefit treat? Sometimes having an hour can put the world back into some sort of normal-mode, rather than exhausted -mode.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Morning all. Another for the insomniacs club here. I was wide awake at 3.30, tossed and turned and turned and tossed, and finally gave in at 5.00 and got up. That'll be me comatose on the sofa all evening.
Need to trip into town this morning as the bits and pieces I need has been mounting up. I also need to buy more Christmas cards as I made a start on writing them yesterday and ran out before I got to the end of the list. I've a gift card to get for eldest DGD too and some personally stylised Converse boots to order for the youngest. I am meeting DD at the shop (Diamond Soles!) so we can "design" them together! I got the two youngest "Frozen" ones (what else?!) last summer and they did all but sleep in them! Not cheap but, hey ho, it's Christmas!
Got a text at 10.00 last night to say eldest DGD had got back safely from the cram packed two days in London. She'd loved every minute. We'll be hearing all about it tomorrow.
Not much OS will be going on today, it's all spend, spend, spend sadly. But after today I should be on the home straight! Just food to concentrate on then but I already have some meat and goodies stashed away which will be a help.
Have a good day all (((((HUGS))))) to those wanting/needing them and take care xx ps I'm not sure I would be welcome if I joined in the carol singing but I might just hum along if that's ok!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was spare ribs in bbq sauce, new pots, onion rings, battered chicken breasts, peas and side salad, it was food bought for the weekend that we then didn't eat. Tonight will probably be the smoked sausage pasta that was menu planned for last night.
Work was a truly manic Monday - and I think today won't be too much different, but I'm only working until lunchtime as DS2 has his appointment at the hospital - we'll see if they come up with anything, GP has done tests etc already and thinks it could be stress - which although I'm not sure - when DS2 is on hols/weekends he doesn't get the pain, but then if things are getting tough, school pushing etc he has the pain, so I'm beginning to think GP could be right. In the summer hols he didn't have the pain at all - and he'd been suffering quite badly up to the end of the summer term, then when they've gone back in Sept it's started up again, we'll see......
Keep safe and well x

I've hung the advent calendars on the fridge. They'll only stay in place with extra-sticky foam pads but they left marks on my old fridge, I didn't want that to happen again. So I hung them with yarn, looped it over the fridge door and tied it to the door shelf insideI have Mars this year, I'm still cross with Cadbury for messing about with their crème eggs, lol. Today's choc is a bit blurred, I think it's a snowman

I need one more big Morrison's shop to get my extra points and £25 voucher, I'll do that today. I have no idea where I'm going to store it all, it's got a bit out of hand
My lovely big, fluffy Lavender Orpington chicken - Lacy – is a bit under the weather and has lost some weight. She wasn't enjoying the windy weather and didn't want to stay out in it so I've piled lots of bedding into the corner of the shed and put food and water in there for her. Hopefully she'll be OK, though chickens are good at hiding illnesses and by the time they show signs of weakness it's often too late.
There's purple and black bits all over the downstairs carpets, Scampi ripped his football into tiny piecesSo I need to hoover that up, might as well do the whole house while I'm at it. Apart from that, I'll just be pottering about and checking on Lacy during the day.

Morning All
tru - I sing your carols in my tuneless way, I love them! Hope Lacey's ok, mine used to be off colour when they were going to moult.
HH - Maybe you could swap houses with DD for an hour or so so she can have some peace and quiet.
I was expecting snow this morning but it's just raining again. Washing hanging about inside. DW emptied and that's about it.
I wrapped all DDs stocking fillers last night and a couple of other pressies, hopefully I can get a few done each evening as it's one job I detest. I can't ever find a comfortable place to do them and end up with backache.
Not much going on here, hoping the builders will come later to clean some more of the tiles, it's such a mess in there.
Take care. XX0 -
Good morning all,
Thank you Hester for starting us off.
Tru, thank you so much for the carol and your picturesque (sp?) post. I so look forward to it, you must have to put a lot of thought into choosing the carols. We are now on countdown
\Have some washing to do and then need to pick up DDs prescription and take it over to her. She is still with our GP although she left home 20 odd years ago.
Almost at the bottom of the freezer, so estimate on Friday I should be able to defrost and clean ready to restock.
I am sorry there are so many insomniacs, Himself slept quite well at the beginning of the night, but then started his roaming about 4.a.m. and finished up on the sofa.
Have a good day all

Good morning everyone.
Thanks for the carol Tru - lovely start to December. I belted it out in my mind, voice still too rough for a live version.
I seem to wake at about 3.00ish most nights, not all, and the drop off again. Mostly I drop off fairly soon, sometimes it takes longer and sometimes I sleep all the night through. There's no apparent pattern.
Yesterday was unexpectedly busy. A neighbour phoned to tell me that there was a deer in the field opposite (he was hiding round the side of the house), so I spent a bit of time just watching her. Then I drove into town to collect said neighbour from car garage where he had dropped of his landy. Did a very small shop (sausages, leeks and eggs) and came home.
Later another friend came round and hung the living curtains - put up the rod etc - third time lucky. I'm absolutely amazed at how different the room looked, we've not had curtains in the last two places we lived in so this is a new sensation! And I mean ' different' in a good way.
Today is the funeral of my nearest neighbour's son who died so tragically the other week. He was only aged 21 so I imagine the Kirk will be packed. I getting collected as there is no need to take a car each and there's not much space in that village. I need to wear smart clothes and keep warm.
Food will be leftover sausages, mash and probably beans. Pure comfort food.
Happy Tuesday everyone - December already.0 -
