hi all Curious George's oh here don't panic it's not the end of the world. It can get better I HAD Sleep Apnoea a few years back. I had the cpap machine (I hope they have changed they were very loud and made you look like a fighter pilot). Any way like I said I had it, it has gone the two things that happened to me that changed it around was I lost weight and I had my tonsils out. since then my Apnoea has gone and my snoring has greatly reduced. I'm not saying that anyone here needs to lose weight I am just saying what cured it for me hope this helps and good luck everyone

    Hi there Curious George ,,

thanks for the hope ,,,as i thought that once you had it ,,that was it you had it for life ,,,,, I have started going to a gym to lose a bit of weight and get a bit fitter,, so hopefully in the future I may be able to come off it ,, I still have my tonsils too so will ask about this when i go to see the consultant

    thanks CG

    KAAT xx

and yes they still make you look like a fighter pilot ,,thats what my OH reminds me off and the noise is like a plane taking off :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

  • that was my other half posting this morning and i can testify to his weight loss and tonsil op curing his terrible snoring and other night time problems...

problem is now that he says he thinks i have apnoea, he says i stop breathing in the night and having read up about it i think hes probably right, i dont think i used to have it but i have put on a lot of weight recently... so maybe it is a huge factor for some people?

  • Hello All

I ama new user of a CPAP machine and I am getting on ok with it, I am still going to bed late but I am sleeping the whole night through when I do sleep and so I do feel better...

    I have a few questions though :

    1. I feel wide awake but I am yawning a lot, does this happen for anyone else ?

    2. I have nasal blockages and I am awaiting an op to remove lumps and straighten my nose and have my sinus rinsed out, I cant breath down one side of my nose, does anyone else think that this is effecting the performance of the machine ??

    3. what masks do people find work the best ??

    Thanks for the help !!

    HI THERE ipodal

hi ,,I too am a new user and have had it one day and one night
last night was the first time and i woke up 3 times wondering what was going on
    hopefully tonight will be better

I have a nasal mask and cannot open my mouth while it is on as the air just circulates out ,,there fore my husband loves it as i have to keep my mouth shut ,,:rotfl::rotfl:,,

but i was scared to fall asleep last night with it on as i didnt know what would happen when i opened my mouth ,but OH noticed that i closed my mouth as soon as i opened it ,,when i slept

he has one also and he has a full face mask as he breathes through his mouth ,,he gets on with that one

about your yawning ,,i have been yawning for a long time now even at the gym ,,seems to get more oxygen in that way ,,hopefully this cpap will stop my yawning

    Hi all,

I recently underwent a sleep study for apnoea and was instead diagnosed with upper airway resistance syndrome. This is apparently similar to sleep apnoea but without the severe drops in oxygen - it was explained that my airway is collapsing at night, leading to little or no air getting through, but then I am waking up and breathing normally before an oxygen drop occurs. On the sleep study I was waking up, with accompanying racing heart, several times an hour, although I have not been aware of this.

I am aware that I constantly feel tired and people have said that I have fallen asleep momentarily whilst they are talking to me etc. Plus my snoring is legendary and has been described as resembling a pile driver.

I am now waiting for a referral to get a mandibular advancement device, as my misaligned jaw is thought to be the cause of the problem. I would be interested in feedback from anyone else that has this syndrome and has tried one of these devices. I did have a mouth shield custom made as I grind my teeth terribly at night and had split and broken several teeth. But most of the time that I used it, I would wake up the next day to find that I had carefully removed it and placed it on the bedside table... :o

ive just started using this, and am finding that the mask is really hurting the bridge of my nose, However, i cant think of anything that i can put in the mask to cushion it, as its right where the airvent is

Also im finding i dribble alot into the mask in my sleep lol, as if the snoring wasnt bad enough. So every time i turn over, i get a facefull of saliva. Anyone else have this problem, as im now finding im getting a very spotty face, and its the horrible blind spots too, not !!!!! ones you can get rid of!

But on the plus side, i do feel a bit more energised :rotfl:

Been a bit of a lapsed visitor to this thread..sorry :o
Flea--it could be better to go back to the Sleep Clinic & see if they have a different mask that would suit you better. I've been very fortunate in that I have had two types, both with bits that only cover my nostrils, so I can't comment on anything other than that type. If you felt you wanted to persevere with the one you have, is there some way of putting a little strip of [material] plaster on the mask or bridge of your nose? Or one of those little white foam pads you can buy for stopping your ornaments marking a wooden table? D'ya know the things I mean cuz I've lost me thread now :rotfl:
How are other peeps doing? Unfortunately my weight is not following the game plan at all & is stubbornly refusing to leave my side....my waist....my bahoona....my hips.....Now I know what they meant on my school report card when they said 'must try harder' :wall:

im finding that too. I dont know whether i dream its morning, as i also turn the machine off during the night too

However, nearly 6wks in, and im finding i still feel tired during the day, so no improvement there. Although it has stopped the snoring, which is the one thing they said the mask wouldnt do!
