Sideffects of CPAP for sleep apnea? And moneysaving treatments for side-effects?

  • Hi again. Thanks for the welcome Violetta. It's taken me ages to find this thread again - I'll bookmark it this time, lol. I went in for my sleep study in early January, & I've now received a letter from my consultant confirming that I do have sleep apnoea, & have been listed for a CPAP trial - should receive it before the end of February. Can't say that I took the diagnosis very well . I'd convinced myself that I didn't have it - mainly because I didn't want it & all that goes with it. Anyway, I'm trying to look at it a bit more positively now & hoping that I get on ok with the machine & finally stop sleeping my life away, actually wake up feeling refreshed & am not so tired & lethargic all the time. Maybe I've gone to the other extreme & am being a bit too optimistic? Anyway, I'm glad I found the thread again & if I have any problems with the machine, I can look back at previous posts for a few tips. :)

Hi munchbunch, good to see you again, I know it's a shock at first, being diagnosed, but think how long you have been suffering probably even longer than you realise. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your CPAP trial, yes I won't lie it takes some getting used to but you will notice a difference, you know where we are, take care.

Hi everyone. Just seen this thread and read with interest. My dissertation for my degree is on Sleep Apnoea and have found it useful to read over how sleep apnoea affects real people rather than the statistics i've been reading so far! Hope everyone is well xx

Aww hugs , the shock and tearfullness could all be part of the apnoea , a known symptom of apnoea (before it's diagnosed) is depression, it has a terrible effect on your mood, thats understandable it's probably been quite a while since you had a good nights sleep.
Like you say it should make you feel better and hopefully your oh can help you through the wierd bit while you are trying to get used to it. Just try not to get your hoses tangled up eh?
Take care and let me know how you get on. Vi

  • hi all Curious George's oh here don't panic it's not the end of the world. It can get better I HAD Sleep Apnoea a few years back. I had the cpap machine (I hope they have changed they were very loud and made you look like a fighter pilot). Any way like I said I had it, it has gone the two things that happened to me that changed it around was I lost weight and I had my tonsils out. since then my Apnoea has gone and my snoring has greatly reduced. I'm not saying that anyone here needs to lose weight I am just saying what cured it for me hope this helps and good luck everyone
