ahh stand up to them!! They are nothing more than bullies!! Tell them to get knotted!!0

I know you want to get rid of them asap but if you commit to £1k no doubt they will jump up and down if at any time you cannot afford it. Thus my suggestion that you save the £300.00 towards a full and final - then if you reallly need that very large bar of chocolate and gallon of wine you can afford it! I am also concerned that whatever you give them they will ask for more - I believe these guys work on commision and thus will not listen to a sensible statement of fact.0

morning
Just remember it is a huge chunck of your income for over a year that you will be paying them for.
I know that whatever I pay them will be over half my income but I think that I want to pay them as much as possible and pay it as soon as possible because I feel really guilty about being 24 and getting to live in a beautiful house in a gorgeous area completely for free with absolutely no overheads apart from my phone and some diesel for my car every once in a while when I actually have to use it.Debt August 2007 - £38,204.58 - Completely Debt Free - May 2008 - Now Proudly Saving.DFW Nerd Number 684 - Proud To Have Dealt With My Debts:heartpuls Very Proud Aunty Ciara :heartpuls0 -

I would love to tell them that but the problem is that I can just never get myself beyond the point where I know that I do owe them the money and that I do feel guilty about it so that in a way I really do not have the right to stand up to them if you know what I mean? I miss the days when my sister was dealing with all of the communication with them for me because although she was never actually rude to them she certainly did not take any of their abuse and knew exactly what to say and when to say it so that they accepted what she had to say and at times even thanked her for being so helpful.I know that I need to be more assertive with them but I just find this so difficult to do when they say things that make me feel like I have committed some kind of abhorent crime rather than just being a silly fool who could not manage her finances which is admittedly not very clever but it is not a horrible life destroying crime either.

I really like the sound of this plan especially the bit where I have money put aside for an emergency gallon of wine. The problem with this lot is that no matter what amount that I commit to pay or how much I manage to overpay this by it never seems to be enough and they are not happy with it ever and have even threatened to take me to court to make me increase the amount that I pay to them. I think that I might just increase my monthly payment to £720.00 per month which is still an increase like I promised them but probably nowhere nearly as much as they will want so I will expect some nasty and threatening phonecalls from them in the not too distant future. But I will try to save as much as I can more than the £300.00 per month so that I have a reasonable amount put aside incase a court ever does say that I have to pay them more.

I am working all weekend again in the pub and I will just have to put my best and friendliest smile on because I desperately need some of those tips so that I can add some more to my emergency savings fund so that I can make a bigger overpayment before Christmas or even in early January so that they can see that I am seriously commited to paying this money off despite not paying them nearly as much as they want every month because I just cannot afford to. I am now just wishing that I had an endless supply of things to sell but I do not so it looks like it is going to be very long and slow from now until I have paid it off and just a lot of hard work as well. But it still looks like I can esily do it by Christmas 2009 which is not all that far away so I cannot get too miserable about it.Debt August 2007 - £38,204.58 - Completely Debt Free - May 2008 - Now Proudly Saving.DFW Nerd Number 684 - Proud To Have Dealt With My Debts:heartpuls Very Proud Aunty Ciara :heartpuls0

Maybe I am looking at this from the wrong angle but:-
(1) they would be fools to take you to court when a payment of over half your salary is being made; any judge (even some of the idiots I know) would laugh at them.
(2) Your circumstances are changing - you will not have a second job anymore; ok you may decide to get one once you have settled into your first job but you do not know how demanding it will be.
(3) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get them to stop ringing you; you keep promising more and more money and they know it so they will see the pattern and carry on asking for more. It doesn't matter how much you give they will still ask for more. Correspond only in writing; let them have a SOA as at now and tell them you are changing job and won't have the pub work. I am sure they think of you as an easy target. Sorry but I am concerned.
Tell them to take you to court if they think they can get any morre money out of you - they won't - why should they pay court costs to be laughed at by the judge? And if they are daft enough to do so I think you said your credit rating is already trashed so worse case scenario - a CCJ and an order to pay probably what you are already paying.
You are moving to a new area to live with your sister who has been great but you may need your privacy after a while and sufficient funds to rent. Please don't give in to these four letter word people.0 -

Thank you for your support and I have followed your advice well at least sort of followed it. I called my sister and told her what you had said about sending in a revised SOA to my creditor without any income from my pub job since I will not have this any more when I move and she made some other suggestions as well which even although they were good they also seemed a bit dishonest and again made me wonder about her moral standards. She said that she had already bought a blank Rent a Room pack at least I think that is what she had called it anyway from W H Smiths and had filled it in with my details and put in a realistic amount for the monthly rent based upon what some of her neighbours charge for renting out their spare rooms and all that I had to do is sign it and I will have some of income which they will have to treat as untouchable because otherwise they would be making me homeless. I am to be honest a bit worried about this because I know that she is only doing it to help me out and she would never actually take a penny of rent off of me but I think that it could end up causing her a lot of trouble. She also gave me figures to include to cover a one third share of the utilities including council tax and I have one question for fellow MSE'ers who live in Scotland which is how in the world can you possibly afford to survive there when council tax rates are so high? Again I know that she will never actually take any of this off of me and is only saying to do this to help me out but I am really not so sure that it is actually such a good idea. Is it actually a criminal offence to pretend to be paying for overheads that really you are not and are already being paid for by other people anyway?

Ok what does SS do to help its tormenting the rest of us not knowing!

I don't think you need to go as far as your sisters suggestion. Just use an SOA based on living where you are now; state that you will not be doing the pub job so that there will be less income and that you will update when you can. I do understand what you mean about it being slightly underhand but you are paying more than the original agreed amount and they are being aggressive. Do however ensure that they do not have your telephone number once you move - can you change mobiles?0
