Your sister - the phrase 'sell ice to the eskimos' comes to mind :rotfl: .

That is definitely true. :rotfl: She took me for lunch and gave me some sales tips that she swears will definitely work which all sound really simple and easy to do so I will road test them tomorrow and see if I can make it work for me. :D I am also going to see if I can possibly keep one of the bottles of Champagne for myself as well if there is any left over as a reward to myself if I do well. :D

It probably does not sound very clever and impressive to most people but I have seen her in action before so I know that it definitely works for her anyway although I will need to wait and see if it will work for me. :o She told me that first and foremost you have to be polite and courteous and show a genuine interest in each potential customer and quickly familiarise yourself with their individual wants and needs and interests. She says that people need to be able to relate to you and trust you and to a limited extent feel that they have some kind of connection to you before they will be willing to hand over their hard earned money to you especially for things that they do not actually need to survive. I have been advised to always be truthful because dishonesty is very easy to spot for an awful lot of people. I was told however that the most important thing is to have a genuine enthusiasm for the products that you are selling because she says that one of the main flaws with human nature is that we are all competitive to an extent and we all want what other people want. :D

She told me to think about my class and how peer pressure and a desire to fit in tends to result in them all wanting the same things for Christmas only she pointed out that as we grow up and become adults we sadly do not move nearly as far away from this mindset as we would like to think which is a very simplistic way of looking at things but it does make sense. It can actually be a bit stressful being close to someone who knows so much and always seems to be right about absolutely everything even although this is not quite how she sees herself. :o We come from quite a disjointed and disfunctional family unit so more members to our very small group are always welcome. :D

  • Extended family on here then? My cakes are coming on nicely now. I have two fruit cakes, one for a Christening and one for a 21st birthday and also another birthday which i have yet to make. They take about 4 hours to make and i have a temperamental oven, so sometimes quicker. My children love it when there are mistakes as they clear up the goodies (their words). Now i have to ice them, i don't mind for family as i feel more confident but for occasions i get more nervous. Am now off to do some serial lurking in cyberspace-Bobx

Ciara I think it would be safe to say that my 'birth' family are disfunctional. Have you seen Mic's chick's thread called something like ' Did your parents praise you when you were younger ?' ? It's very moving to read other people's childhood experiences. Bob you know I'm only pulling your leg don't you ? :kisses3:
