I am scared now that my actual lack of skills in my chosen profession might be exposed now that another adult will be able to see it whereas the children display a real lack of discernment in this area.

Dinner was lovely thank you although I came home straight after because he had already arranged to spend the evening with friends and was willing to cancel it for me which I did not want him to do so I left so that he could catch up with them. I loved that comment too and I keep smiling every time that I think about it.

The youngsters of primary school age are my victims but I have the 10 year olds this year.

Good night I am off to bed as well although I do not think that there is any chance of me sleeping at all because today has just been so good and I still feel totally elated.

I know that I really should not be here just now because I am at work but my class are with our student teacher in the library doing some research so they are really not being neglected. I just really want the opinions of other adults and/or parents on a situation that I have encountered this morning that I am really not happy about. One of my pupils is 10 today and for her birthday her parents have allowed her to have her hair heavily highlighted and acrylic nails/talons apllied as well in addition to having her belly pierced so that she looks good for her party tonight. I may be totally wrong and naive and prudish and goodness knows what else but this just does not really seem appropriate to me. :mad:

Oh my goodness me!!! What kind of irresponsible message does that send out? Have they never read any literature about belly button piercing and mores to the point there is a code of conduct in place-voluntary i might add, that children should not be under the age of 16. The school ahould also have rules which she is obviously flouting- such as PE, Health and safety, if it gets infected are you expected to clear it up for her:mad: surely at the age of 10 she could have found something more appropriate, i pity the poor child as it seems her childhood is firmly in the bin as she is turned into some mini adult. I know children want to follow trends and no doubt she will have a tattoo by the age of 12. And if anyone thinks i am generalising, i have been teaching far too long and know too many children that have done this, and it is not aspertions on their characters, just on trends that i think they need to make decisons on, when they are older. I had an 11 year old in my class who had had her belly button pierced twice and i had to take her to casualty when she collapsed from an infection the second time. she now has a nasty scar where her belly button is- at the top and can't have it pierced again and was so upset by it all - it was heart wrenching to see. My nephew is also a tattoo and piercing artist, and the amount of times he has had to turn away youngsters is unbelievable. he is heavily tattooed and pierced himself and is 21 but feels that everyone should wait as these decisions stay with you for life.:cool: Personal rant over- hope you're are coping with it and i would have a word with the head to see if she can help you with guidance on PE etc, its a minefield of self justification on both sides. I am seeing the head at the end of the day so I shall be able to get her input on the situation then because I am worried about how somebody so young is going to cope with maintaining and caring for this piercing safely without injury. Thankfully we were not due to do any form of physical activity today but I am painfully aware that this will be my responsibility while this child is in my care which I am seriously unhappy about because I just do not think that this is fair at all to either of us. :mad:
