Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:

Ciara I think it would be safe to say that my 'birth' family are disfunctional. Have you seen Mic's chick's thread called something like ' Did your parents praise you when you were younger ?' ? It's very moving to read other people's childhood experiences. Bob you know I'm only pulling your leg don't you ? :kisses3:
Talking of which there is a book by a psychologist called " They f*** you up your mum and dad" by Oliver stone? Think i may have last name wrong, but interesting book and all about passed on disfunction in both society and family. It's very apt and compelling reading.

Bob do you mean Oliver James ? Isn't Oliver Stone the film director ? :D Thanks for the recommendation. I have got Affluenza by Oliver James out of the library but not read much yet - too much time lurking on here :rotfl:

That must be the one, i read it a couple of years ago, and have a few more on the boil- as it were, but that one won some prize from the powers that be. i will have a look at affluenza. I can get some e books from my uni, and it maybe on the list. I read on someone elses post about a personality test- i do those as part of my course as well and are very good for analysing political persuasions and influences that we are unaware of, have either of you tried them? As they are very good for helping you come to an understanding about yourself.

Extended family on here then? My cakes are coming on nicely now. I have two fruit cakes, one for a Christening and one for a 21st birthday and also another birthday which i have yet to make. They take about 4 hours to make and i have a temperamental oven, so sometimes quicker. My children love it when there are mistakes as they clear up the goodies (their words). Now i have to ice them, i don't mind for family as i feel more confident but for occasions i get more nervous. Am now off to do some serial lurking in cyberspace-Bobx

That sounds wonderful I would so love to have a talent like that and actually be able to produce something creative that people will enjoy but sadly I am a total liability in the kitchen no matter how hard that I try. :o You should be really proud of yourself and what you can do. :D

I have not seen that thread but I will go and have a look for it. :D The strangest thing is that to the casual observer I had what would appear to be an idylic childhood where I got to participate in lots of brilliant activities that most children never really get the opportunity to do and I was always taken on fabulous holidays and I lived in a beautiful home with every luxury available and we certainly had what amounts to a comfortable standard of living. :o

I have never heard of this book but I will look out for it. :D I think that I am maybe a bit scared of my subconscious and what it might reveal about me if I were to do any test that might probe into to it to try though. :o

Thanks- I usually just do them for family, and others here and want one- but it works me up a bit in case if food poison them. I learned off a friend when we were making my daughter's wedding cake. I made a beautiful one last year and now seem to be official Christmas cake maker and birthdays in families. The trouble is that i am always fiddling round with the decorations and it drives me nuts. I took design and technology as a minor at uni and when it came to the food, the instructor was swapping recipes with me and we ended up doing the classes together:rotfl: I still keep in touch and really enjoyed it. I had to do an exhibition at the end and mine was on romans and we had a roman banquet- it was great ( I was a mature student, did the course when children were little about 14 years ago:eek: )

Ill find the web link for you, and you can do it online- its free. I dont read much into it - just a learning curve, i started doing it as part of my masters course, and i just become too engrossed.

That sounds so wonderful and so much fun. :D I always knew that I did the wrong degree and should have done something more interesting instead. :o
