I know what you're getting at, I'm a Mint Cinnamon user, but I'd also hazard a guess that aside from this forum the vast majority of users don't have a clue beyond opening their browser.
Any alterations to the desktop settings would probably be limited to changing the background picture, to the kids or family pet.

Fair point. I think I tend to aim too high, or low, depending on how you look at it.

I did wonder about converting my parents to Mint, its mostly the same as XP they are used to. But whilst tinkering i thought what if they needed to install a driver and that was it, there was no way i could talk them through all that.

They probably won't have to but if they do buy something like a new printer it will, in my experience, be plug and play and install without any fuss.

I've stopped being surprised at how simple installing stuff on Linux has become.

Argh -- updating software in Windows is so tedious. Once command in Linux, and everything's up-to-date.

I didn't count on so much highbrow discussion. ;)

Some of the worlds best conversations and ideas started out as either a bit of fun or a discussion while drunk :D

That's my biggest pet hate about Windows, updating a new install is about as much fun as having hot knitting needles poked into my eyes.

Well, a cold needle poked into my eye delivering a dose of Lucentis is somewhat less awful than you would think it might be.

Not fun, merely five seconds of unpleasantness...
