toner bonded to a fuser drum, or a damaged fuser, stops toner being bonded to the paper in the place it's expected.
loose toner floating about causes marks on prints, it normally clears itself up after a few sheets
so before the op spends £100 on a part they may not need, it would be sensible to check it0 -
You not heard of toner burn? Toner that gets burnt on to the fuser creates ghost patterns down a print. It is one of the most common faults that mean a replacement before the end of life of the part.
A damaged fuser, mainly the film being cracked or missing chunks would cause this but you would see the film breaking up and coming out of the machine.
A fuser that wasn't heating up properly would cause an error due to the sensors built-in to it, you would see a 50.x error.0 -
just had a thought, the paper you are using is decent quality and hasn't been damp has it? Try printing a configuration page and posting a pic of it here.0

Thanks. Not wishing to cause a fracas you understand...
The printer has done just over 3,500 pages in total, with just over 1,800 colour pages.
Different paper (80gsm and 90gsm) has been used and it occurs on both. There are no particles of toner that appear on the page which are no where they should be.0 -

You are not causing anything. The printer has done just over 3,500 pages in total, with just over 1,800 colour pages.
That's a low page count for any of these issues to occur, even for the toners to run out. Printing one or two pages can stress components as much as printing a 100 at a time but that is a low page count.Different paper (80gsm and 90gsm) has been used and it occurs on both.
Just ruling out an issue I remember having with a customer, the paper was by a window and was getting a bit damp, it stops the toner sticking to the page and the small amount of steam broke down the fuse film.
I'll stick with my initial hunch, you haven't mentioned any error codes (or blinking lights if no LCD panel) and if the print is just faded and not over printing or ghosting in any way and the print density settings haven't been played about with, then the next point of failure is the ITB.0 -

At present, the Toolbox reports that the three colour cartridges each have 0% in and the black 3%.Big_Graeme wrote: »Just ruling out an issue I remember having with a customer, the paper was by a window and was getting a bit damp, it stops the toner sticking to the page and the small amount of steam broke down the fuse film.

Can the ITB be cleaned? (I have a Service Manual which shows disassembly.)0 -
