HP Laserjet CP1215 going faint on left side of page

I have a HP Laserjet CP1215 which is just over five years old with not an awful lot of use.
The three colours and black are going slightly faint on the left side of the page. I figured that the laser unit could be at fault as this is the common part of all four cartridges.
I thought it might be the laser itself which is loosing it a bit. By this I assume it turns off and then returns to the start of the next line where it turns on again, and that it is taking time to warm up on the new line.
However, I fitted a new laser unit (part number RM1-4766) but it is still faint...
The laser unit has its own PCB which has obviously been swapped. So the chip that controls the laser would seem not to be at fault, unless it is on one of the other boards.

Not familiar with the colour versions but on the bog standard black toner versions it usually meant the toner was running out. You could usually get a bit more mileage out of them by taking the cartridge out and shaking them from side to side. Can you do that with your cartridges?... OK but that may be a design fault, that each of the cartridges delivers more toner on one side than the other ... your house isn't suffering from subsidence is it :rotfl:
Seriously, have you tried shaking them up?... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -

Sounds like the transfer belt is on its way out, RM1-4436 is what you need.0

Actually, you may be closer to the truth than you realise.
Not subsidence, but a tilted base, the printer is standing on.
If the printer is tilted slightly (from side to side), as the cartridges approach empty, the toner will gather at one end of the cartridges, giving the effect the OP describes.0 -
