POLL: When does Christmas start for you/your family? & when do decos/tree go up?

I normally put my decorations up 2nd weekend in December, but this year they're going up this weekend, personally I'd like to cancel Christmas this year as my sister is terminally ill & unlikely to still be here Christmas day, but I have 2 young kids so I need to keep the magic going for them. I wouldn't be able to face putting them up after she passes, hence doing them early, presents are also all bought/wrapped & as much prep food wise is also done.
I'm sorry that it's going to be a tough month for you - we went through similar a decade ago, and again this year - I wish I had some wise words as to how to cope, but just try to take some time for yourself, a few quiet moments to calm the torrent of conflicting emotions and to relax the smile which (I know) you will have plastered on your face whilst your heart is breaking.
Next week we will celebrate MILs last birthday and she isn't up to spending her last Christmas day with the family. I'm waiting for it to actually sink in with my husband, to try to comfort him whilst still maintaining the "magic" for our 5 year old.
Wishing you strength, support and sympathy.0 -
My tree went up last weekend, simply because i'm working all this weekend and most of next week, and i'm impatient and wanted to feel christmassy

I think my mum usually puts her tree up the first weekend in december and bf's mum was on about putting hers up this week.
I shall be donning a santa hat (and an elf hat and reindeer antlers) at work from the 1st december (my manager refuses to let me wear it before then, and she's banned my xmas jumpers till christmas week :rotfl: )This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Tbh working in retail at christmas is somewhat soul destroying at times
so having a bit of christmas cheer and a laugh with the customers makes it more bearable for me This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I don't do decorations - love other people's but it would drive me mad in my own home. Once advent starts (tomorrow) I start feeling quite festive. By the crib service on Christmas eve (ie actual Christmas) I'm well into the swing of things.0

I refuse to put up decorations or buy the tree before 1st December.
It varies each year as to when we buy our tree as it depends when OH is not working so we can go and buy it (he is a heating engineer so is busy this time of year and gets called out all the time). We don't usually put up any decorations until we have the tree.
We are hopefully buying our tree this week. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0
