I'll put the decorations up in the middle of December. But you've all reminded me that I need to get the advent calendar out the loft and think of what to put in it.

Its kind of started already as the school fayre was yesterday and the children have done some crafts and are practicing for Xmas shows and concerts.

I will put our outside lights up tomorrow ready to switch on for the 1st and we'll probably do the tree next weekend - it seems to be the quietest weekend on my calendar...

DD is 5 and has been asking for the tree to go up for about a fortnight :D

I do like Xmas - but I also love how tidy the house looks when everything is put away after :)

    So I voted 1-7 Dec

We normally put our tree up during the second week of December, then I like it all packed away and back to normal on new years eve. Don`t get me wrong I love Christmas and everything about it, but by NY I want to make a fresh start on everything!

Many people on here seem to be getting irked that some people are raving about Christmas already, and have already put decorations and lights up! (I am a bit! actually)

So when does Christmas start for you?/Your family?

I don't mean when you start getting gifts etc, but when you put the decorations and lights up, and when you think Christmas REALLY starts. ::)

Thanks for your comments. Hope the explanation helps you pick a choice. :)

Thanks so much everyone for taking part and 'voting.' :D
Sorry, I thought you meant 2 seperate questions with the and eg
1, when do you put decs up
2, when does Christmas really start.

I put the decs up on the most convenient weekend in December. :)

I hadn't realised advent started on the 4th weekend before Christmas even if that fell in November, I always thought it started December 1st... I blame the calendars. :p

In the past it would have been the weekend before Christmas, but with a five year old I'm heading for the loft on the 1st. Priority will be getting the reward chart out! The threat of a "naughty" sticker guarantees excellent behaviour for a whole month.

I'm looking forward to the Lego advent calendar too - should be arriving Monday :T

Well the official start of advent is the closest Sunday to St. Andrews day* (Nov 30th) which could be after Dec 1, but advent calendars just start on the 1st because that's easier.

*I said Dec 1 in my post above, which is what you get for half-paying attention and thinking of calendars :rotfl:

I normally put my decorations up 2nd weekend in December, but this year they're going up this weekend, personally I'd like to cancel Christmas this year as my sister is terminally ill & unlikely to still be here Christmas day, but I have 2 young kids so I need to keep the magic going for them. I wouldn't be able to face putting them up after she passes, hence doing them early, presents are also all bought/wrapped & as much prep food wise is also done.

Why does it bother people when other people put the trees up?
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)
