Authentication of forwarded Natwest Email required
Options
Hi, i have been forwarded a document from a family member who borrowed money from me. This document purported to be from the Natwest bank for a approved additional borrowing application and which stated a date when funds would be released.
This date has long past and i was given a excuse that the loan had been declined at the last moment. No reason as to why.
I have my suspicions as to the authenticity of the email or the actual loan application itself and loan refusal
Could anybody advise of the procedure to investigate this directly with the Natwest if at all possible?.
All i want to know is if the email was genuine and if so whether the application was refused by Natwest, i seek no personal or financial details
I suspect a solicitor is going to be required.

What right do you think you have to go asking the bank for details about one of their customers?0

Like i said i am not seeking additional financial details, just a simple yes or no as to whether a email is genuine.
To pass of a document which is not genuine is fraud in anybodies language. And seeing as the email volunteered to me and contained financial information addressed to me i dont see a problem as to inquiring about the authentication status.
Anybody can knock up a convincing template. I am also sure the bank themselves would be interested in people trying to pass of false communications if proved.
Obviously there is more to this but i am keeping this specific to a inquiry about possible evidence gathering with the bank.0 -

They won't give you any information about it, though. They couldn't give you 'a simple yes or no' without revealing information about someone else's finances. Something they'd get in deep doodoo for."Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."0 -
They will probably have an e-mail address to report phishing e-mails and the like. You could send it there if you think it may not be genuine.

Right, but this is not a phishing attempt. And like i said the document contains details regarding a loan for a approved sum of which i already know the amount. I would be providing this email / document in its entirety for validation for the purpose of fraud detection and possible criminal action.
They would not be telling me anything i do not already know other than to confirm whether the document is genuine or not.
Or is it a case that they will only take action when the possible fraud is against themselves
I fully understand the aspect of data protection and privacy laws ect but am pretty sure in the interest of crime prevention (fraud) this is over ridden.
Hope somebody with direct banking or law experience will reply. I figure will just have to go see a solicitor otherwise direct to small claims court0 -
I would say the email is fake, as NatWest dont normally send out emails like that OP.
Got a feeling you wont see your money back and have been done up by your family member (hope im wrong but I doubt it)0 -

Rather than asking for opinions here I would simply go and ask Natwest. I think we can all anticpate the outcome of the conversation though.0

I am confident i would get my money back should i instigate legal proceedings now as i have sufficient evidence on other undisclosed matters, however proof from the bank that communications forwarded to myself as evidence of a fake loan would be a open and shut case..
Even if this involved the bank contacting the 3rd party and myself for a meeting that would be fine by me.0 -
The poster has been a member for nine years next month. 4,761 posts over 9 years works out to be an average of 1.44 posts per day. You've made 2 posts today. Just sayin'.
Look, you may not be getting the answers you want to hear, but that's not going to change anything. No financial institution in the country is going to confirm to you whether that e-mail is real or fake, because to do so would be confirming whether an applicant a) made an application for a loan, and b) whether or not that application was successful. Like it or not, this is personal information, and they'd be in a big mess if they divulged it to a third-party (you).
What you're asking is the equivalent of finding someone else's loan application on a street and asking for information on it, because you happen to have a copy of some paperwork.
If you think it's fraud, contact the police, and they will do the investigating.
Actually i am more than happy for constructive comments instead of those from halfwits who think they are being clever or funny. If you are comparing post counts with intelligence than you are deluded.
Again if you read my comments properly what you are saying is ridiculous . Since when would somebody who has found a copy of some paperwork be prepared to attend a meeting with a representative of the bank and the person they are accusing of wrong doing.
It's not a matter of what i want to hear. I already knew of the obvious implications for privacy etc which is why the request for any possible help and useful advice and not such comments as what gives me the right rubbish when the reason is right before you.0
