Been looking at cars for a week or so and the OH quite likes the look of this.

Just looking for opinions on it, I've seen a few recommending certain Volvos on other threads.
What should I be looking out for, I'm aware the timing belt etc is due changed if it hasn't been already.

The XC70 is under rated.
It is also a complicated car.
The Volvo forum as mentioned is a good place to find info
But don't forget that forums sometimes make people think a certain car is troublesome due to many only posting when they have an issue.0 -
Yes, you do tend to find forums (and Honest John) could put you off as people are only posting up problems.0

For £4000 seems a little expensive for a 2004 car. No mention of co2 emissions on advertising. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche
Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.0 -
It seems about £1000 dearer than other xc70's on Autotrader.Better to remain a silent fool than speak and remove all doubt.0

You seem to be paying an awful lot for "one lady owner"... I didn't think they even used that daft phrase anymore...
I concur they're great cars. I would have another but only if the right one came along. No experience of the D5 but I guess they have all the weaknesses of early 2000 CR diesels because it's all the same component suppliers.
My petrol had 170k miles on and was probably good for another 170k. It ran out of seats long before it ran out of lives.
Handbrake seems to be a weakness on these cars. Small parts for a heavy car, always needed the occasional tweak. Refined, comfortable mile eater. E class comfort for Ford prices - and I actually have an E class to compare it against.0 -
just get a 2wd one if you really do not need awd. Service intervals are 18500m or annual I think.
Some good specialist indy garages about. Will be a good selection of used parts.
D5 is a good engine, understressed and relatively frugal.
Buy one privately rather than paying over the odds at the price range you are looking at. There may be plenty of well cared examples about but also those abused as vans.

I must admit I have never seen a FWD XC700

What does the age of the car have to do with the price?
Cars used prices relate not just to age but to desirability.
This car is desirable for more than one buyer.
It appeals to people that need a 4x4, people who need a diesel estate, people who want a Volvo estate and those looking for a robust vehicle without image problems.
As a vehicle it is comparable to an X5 or Disco.
But like the XC90 is better in many ways than either.0
