Vehicle seizure recovery problem

Hi, please bear with me as this is may seem very complicated.

The other day I had my car impounded as my licence expired by 5 days due to a medical condition and me forgetting to renew it (stupid I know but I've had bereavements, a relationship ending and other stresses to contend with so I don't need anyone telling me I'm an idiot, because I already know this).

The police won't give the release go ahead without impound insurance.

I cannot pick the car up until my licence has been renewed (sent online). Police need hard copies of documents.

I want my brother in-law to collect the car but insurance companies will only insure the owner.

Currently paying impound garage parking fees. Need the car out asap.

Police have issued offence code RT88334, insurance companies don't recognise this when I tell them it.

This is undoubtedly the most complicated, confusing, stressful and expensive situation I've ever been in. I really don't deserve this but I've done wrong and just want to pay for my errors and forget this mess, it's destroying my mind.

Does anyone know of any insurance companies that can help? Google is not giving many options, and as before will only insure owner.

Otherwise I guess I'll have to wait for the renewed licence and pay the parking fees.

Transfer the car to him. Once the V5 is filled in,he is the 'owner'?
Yes I know the V5 doesnt make someone the owner but given your situation it seems the easiest way.
  • Not sure how long that would take though, I'm pretty sure they'd need the full v5 showing in his details. Worth asking the police again tomorrow though.

What have your own insurer said?
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.

LC20 is the code your insurance company will recognise.

I don't know why they are being anal about the insurance as that's not why it was seized. Which police force is it? I would ask them to show the legislation they are retaining it under rather than their force policy.

I would take this to Peppipoo forums.

I don't understand what "impound insurance" is.
You have valid insurance, and the vehicle was seized because you were driving otherwise than in accordance with your licence.

If the BIL has "dive any vehicle you don't own" cover, and a driving licence, and the car has valid insurance in your name, I don't see why they won't release the vehicle to him if you are standing there next to him.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

On my policy the "drive any car you don't own" clause specifically excludes recovering a car from a pound.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Some policies state they do not cover impounded vehicles so the police want to ensure that your exisitng insurance covers it.

If not ,you will need to buy specific insurance for it.
A Google search will give you several hits,
  • Did the police get the insurance to say it was cancelled at roadside ?
This is unlawful as the clause on licences usually states holds or has held a licence.
Therefore the car would have been insured and the cancellation unlawful without a 7 day written notice.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

His car wasn't impounded for no insurance, it's was for driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.
