If the biggest issue surrounding Smart meters is the bills might go up.. well, thats the benefit of not having an estimated reading.
If you only pay for what you use, then you get cheap bills in the summer, and not so cheap bills in the winter.0 -
Thank you for all the replies. As these have been really helpful.0

SSE Energy . OBVIOUS customer choices with smart meters
Is there any possible extraneous " terms & conditions " that basically stop the customer from having the smart meter removed.
Where it wasn't clearly known before that the Smart Meter install that connects to the Vodafone Network & sends data every 30 minutes that could be remoted too from the Energy Company that would . Cause . the power at the home address to be disconnected even though there would be no electric bill debt or money owing .
Then find that the Energy Company call centre can't then remote the Smart Meter to switch on the electric at the home address even though this was promised for a given day and time .
Then find that secondary help from Public Complaints Concern
Ofgem
CAN'T help because of having there own " terms & conditions " that explain are unable to help for Home Addresses & Businesses .
The problem then for the Customer at Home Address is electricity isolation .
That is finally resolved from another concern at the Citizens Advice Bureau that reaches the Energy Company and can ONLY ask for the Smart Meter to be remoted and then switched on .
These stepped difficulties could have been avoided if these Listable Issues were described before install .
With a possible CHOICE if would want to contend with this .
THOUGH theses issues were ONLY realised after .
Do I have permission to have the Smart Meter removed or another Smart Meter installed with a revision of circuit and software design so that this remoted disconnect that was unjustified couldn't happen .
The PROBLEM is the before warning of what this method of technology is WASN'T described before install and THEN I wasn't given a CHOICE .
If there isn't another
Customer Friendly . Smart Meter . That doesn't allow remote switch off .
Do I have with the " terms & conditions " from SSE Energy the RIGHTS to have this Smart Meter removed on a Free Cost Basis within a reasonable time of a few days .
PLEASE do give any explanation to do with these Customer Care Issues .

Good question there in that do you have permission to have the smart meter removed.? I would like to know the answer to that one myself. I know water meters once they are fitted and are older than a year cannot be taken out .My guess is that they can be but the costs are paid by the occupier and that could be over £100 inc the cost of a new digital non smart meter
Smart meters in Northern Ireland are "semi smart " in that they do not have direct connection to the supplier, so no remote shut off.I have never heard of the remote shut off facility ever being used. The meters are capable of it but I don t think the suppliers yet have the ability to do it.0
