wow those nappy cakes are FAB!!!!! im due in two weeks .... if anyone wants to make me one :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

i asked my friend what she would like for when her baby boy was born and she said clothes, as they had been and bought everything matching for their baby's room etc.

my mu bought me a johnsons baby box from superdrug its lilac and filled with one of everything that johnsons do for baby (smells lush!)

another idea would be to make her up a "treasure basket" for the baby to play with when older - do a google search or look on surestart and you will find lots of info (or pm me and ill help!)

tbh im hoping people will buy us/baby clothes as we havent any outfits really for baby when born
i know some people like keepsakes (money boxes, photo frames etc) but we arent really into them and would just be clutter to me (and OH would grumble at having to put a shelf up!!)

they have lovely hand and foot print kits in mothercare too they would be a nice present

Can I just say that if you do go down the hand/foot print casting- get someone to do it professionally for you. It is sooooo difficult to get a good hand cast because the instinct of the baby is to screw the hand up and you'll end up with a fist shape. I think I ended up paying £100 for the lady to come twice, leave 5 casting sets to try myself, a 2hand2foot framed for me, a 2 single hand single foot framed for my mum and sister. Well worth getting someone else to do it, as the single casting sets are expensive if you mess up.

Are they definately using disposables? Alternatively on the nappy front- have a look at www.weenotions.co.uk for lovely fleece washable wipes and matching changing mats, wrapped in ribbon, which would suit whether they were using cloth OR disposable nappies.

I made a nappy cake, I'm not creative at all, but it wasn't hard, and I used a bottle of wine for the centre (it's usually a baby's milk bottle).
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

We had a baby boy 6 weeks ago and here are some of the presents we were very grateful to get:

We had a keepsake box which all mums love to keep memories of the babies. We got this one but a slightly bigger one could be a bit more practical. This present will last for years:

The best thing we got was from my brother and it was towel set by Kaloo also came with a little soft bear. It is so soft and durable. It was last his him a long time even when he is a toddler:

Sleep bags are very good idea and we had too go out and buy three (one in use, one in the cupboard, one in the wash) because he loved them as slept a lot better in them.

Warning on clothes. They are a great present but people always say get 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 months old clothes as they will get loads of newborn stuff but we didn't get any until people asked a couple of weeks after the birth. We got loads of 0-3, 3-6, 6-9. We had to find a place to store them and then go out a buy some newborn stuff. So if you want to buy them clothes ask them what age range they want after the birth so that they have a even amount.

Also if you buy clothes look at the season the outfit is for as I was the first one of my mates to have a baby I had to take items back and replace them as they wouldn't of been worn (e.g. in 6 months it is winter don't get shorts).

A pampering kit my other half got off one of here best freienss went down well. She loved it.

We bought our friends the following comforter also from babyblooms from the baby show:

But we also like this, if you want to send flowers you could get the following instead as we had loads of flowers and didn't know what to do with them:

    I've been Money Tipped!
One of my pressies after DS was a mobile beautician come and do a manicure at home when DS was 4 weeks old. Felt like such luxury! (and only cost £10 too, so within your budget?)

As for useful things for baby, I often give things which are good to have around but you don't think you need them until you need them...Karvol vapourisers, karpol, bonjela that sort of stuff.

And don't forget the good old Ashton and Parsons powders- what a life saver they were at 4 months

Our baby is just over 6 weeks old. The best gift to receive is nappies. Among our various gifts, we received a Boots gift card (to buy nappies) and half a dozen packs of Pampers newborn (absorbs poo really well).

Of the various things we bought ourselves, the best purchase has been Burt's Bees toiletries (for baby). The dusting powder and diaper cream are wonderful and smell gorgeous too.
