I'm with Avro. I give them a meter reading every month. Is it legal for them to then estimate the reading. If they are doing this then what is the point of giving them a reading. I have asked the question and all they say is. "we dont provide a pay as you go tariff"
For most, the trick is to submit readings actually on your statement date. They estimate if you submit earlier or later.

If anyone is thinking of joining Avro Energy then my advice is DON'T.  They are the worst energy company I have ever dealt with.  They ignore emails, they ignore complaints, they set Direct Debits way too high.  They don't refund huge credit balances, they ignore Ofgem's license conditions.  Don't even think about having a smart meter installed with these incompetents.  Forget the cheaper prices, the savings are not worth the hassle you have to go through in dealing with these muppets.. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS.
    I also can't disagree more.

I have been a customer with Avro for at least 3 years now and for the last year have been lucky enough to be on a very cheap tariff.

I emailed them at the on Friday night at 7:40pm and received a reply on Saturday (next day) at 10:34am.  I was not expecting a reply until the Monday at the earliest, so was pleasantly surprised.

That's tantamount to saying that they have the right to keep customers' accounts in credit. I wonder if this is in the small print that no one has seen or read.

I also estimated my yearly usage as given on the soon to be previous suppliers site plus a few hundred kWhs on each utility just in case I use a bit more of either utility.
That's pointless because it means your quotation will be less accurate and you may end up paying for more than you need.
It's not like ordering a few more bags of coal in case the weather turns cold and you run out !
The extra is so the gas usage can be accounted for if a really cold winter and my DD will not increase the extra on the electric would be used against the gas.
Someone please tell me what money is

Having a high balance is really bad news for someone on their uppers.
For those who aren't, look at this rationally. The monthly loss of interest on that high balance excess is, approximately,  the cost of one unit of electricity.

I have to agree with those who can't disagree more.
I've found them to be the opposite. With the few e-mails I have sent them there has been a positive and helpful reply within 24 hours.
My initial DD was set up way too small, not too high. A request to increase it was again answered quickly and it was applied to the next month's payment.

I notice that Avro has recently (15/01/21) increased the cost of its [SuperPremium] SuperPremier and the only way to get Avro's cheaper tariffs is to be a "new" customer.
I've been looking at London Power who are currently cheaper than Avro's SuperPremier and backed by Octopus Energy with no exit charges. I've got a few weeks to go before my existing Avro contract ends but a jump to London Power at that time would set me up nicely as a "new" Avro customer if Avro's pricing comes down later.
This option is probably only available to customers in the GLC but, for me, it's going to be one to watch.
    Edit
SORRY folks - that should have been the SuperPremier tariff. I regret that Avro pricing is currently making me dizzy. I've amended the original post, hopefully for clarity.

They've upped prices on an existing fixed tariff?? I'll need to watch this as i'm due to go onto that tariff in six days. I'm guessing with a renewal pack from 26th December quoting prices i'll be ok.

When i try for a new quote now they don't quote me SuperPremium but something called SuperSwitcher which is a £5 dearer a month for me.

ps- the old rate i'm coming off is called Simple and SuperFlow.

You are confused. Superpremium is a fixed price tariff. It is no longer available. So to say that Avro have increased that tariffs charges makes no sense. I managed to change to Superpremium just before it was withdrawn, so my costs will remain unchanged until 19th Feb next year.

I'm currently on SuperFixed, with the renewal date fast approaching, but when I click to renew online, it gives me a quote and then tells me it's not been possible to renew and to give them a call. The number it says then just states that it's emergency calls only.

When I first got a new quote, it was SuperPremium at £71 per month based on my exact usage from the last year. Then it changed to SuperPremier at £75 per month, at this point I emailed them to see if I could get it done that way. Now it has changed again to SuperSwitcher, which for me is £77 per month. (This all happened in the space of about 10 days!)

I sent the email 3 days ago now, I'm hoping they get back to me soon, before the tariffs go up again! My options of switching could get me back down to £72 per month with Simplicity, but then I will have a £100 exit fee if a good big switch is announced in March.
