I have noticed that my estimated annual usage for electricity is updated on each and every monthly statement whilst the estimated annual usage for gas is never updated and had remained exactly the same since I joined them.

Interesting point there. I have checked an Avro account I have 3 years of statements with, and they have had monthly readings for. The "estimated annual usage" for gas has always been exactly the same. It was reasonably accurate to start with, but despite the actual annual usage they have billed for fluctuating a little, they have never adjusted that figure. The house now has a new more efficient boiler, and that coupled with the mild winter we've had means the actual annual usage has fallen.
Bizarrely, their estimated usage for electricity is always significantly below the actual annual usage (by 26% on the last statement), but does vary on the monthly statements. Having just switched to a new cheaper tariff with Avro the direct debit was adjusted and is now a bit below what I calculate it should be. Haven't tried getting it increased, will be interesting to see what happens if I try to switch the account away one day, and there's a debit balance. It won't be a huge amount, probably less than the monthly DD.

I suppose it illustrates their systems really aren't up to much...

Hi All, Just a quick note about Avro energy so everyone is aware before they switch.  I completed the switch to Avro Energy and received an e-mail from them with my acc number and other information regarding my switch to them. It stated the following - Your switch is on track and you’ll be with Avro on 16/03/2020. Your current supplier may be in touch, too, to tie up any loose ends. (Fine so far) then went onto say - We will be taking your first Direct Debit on the 07/03/2020 and monthly thereafter.  As they wished to take a direct debit before I had even switched to them and I would be one of their customers I decided to give them a quick call, (just to check this would really be the case) I spoke to one of their call staff (after waiting for 15 minutes) and was informed they always take the first Direct Debit 12 days after you complete your switch form with them and monthly thereafter. I then pointed out to them this would be 9 days before they became my supplier and again she said "as I've already explained sir we take the first Direct Debit 12 days after you complete your switch form with us and monthly thereafter". I then stated to her I'm sorry but I will not pay you until you are my supplier and was told "well that’s the way we do it!!" I cancelled the switch and have now joined another supplier. (That does not take the first Direct Debit until they are your supplier and you are there customer)

I just thought I'd let everyone know.

I have similar feelings to yourself on this particularly when you reckon with not getting instant credit if due from your old supplier. In similar circs I have been able to cancel the D/D  with astute timing via my bank which has had the effect of levelling the playing field to some extent. Question: which supplier did you switch to that was more cooperative in this respect???

I have just moved to Avro and have read your comments about estimated bills / meter readings.  Am I right in thinking that you need to submit your reading on your `billing date` so bills are issued correctly and if you submit readings even a day before this they will be estimated?   many thanks

I have been with Avro for 4 years  and have never had an issue. My billing date is the 14th and I normally submit my readings on the 12th when the reminder comes. My bills show my readings from the 12th and an estimated readings for the 14th. The estimated readings have been  very accurate,.

There seems to be some variation in how they manage this phenomenon - in my case, which is a little unusual, I think they've not got it quite right - but my readings are submitted at more random dates than most would do, as I'm 50 miles from the property in question and take readings as and when I can - more for my own benefit, to track fuel use, than theirs.

Hence I might have to join in with their game and get a reading as close to the billing date as possible, extrapolate it forwards myself knowing what the usage usually is and submit those on the right day - see if it irons out some of the wrinkles.

I have not had my first bill yet, but when I get the readings reminder will try to keep it as close to the billing date as I can.  Thank you both for replying

Sounds like a good idea to me, if its not too much trouble for you keep us informed how you get on with your plan, I for one am interested in it especially as I'm a new customer with Avro.

FWIW I send them two sets of readings. One at the end of the month when I do the readings to put in the spreadsheet, the second on the 12th, the day before they say they want them. I still get an E for Estimated reading on the 13th.

Forgive my stupidity here as I'm not getting it, are you saying that in order to get an actual bill and not estimated I am gonna have to submit my reads on the EXACT day Avro say they want it?

If I give them a reading for the 12th they use that as the basis for an estimated reading on the 13th.
