yes it can, but you need to let it defrost properly. when it freezes, its as is it freezes in two parts - the milk and the water content. when it comes to defrosting, the water part defrosts quicker apparently. if you dont let it defrost properly so the milk and water can mix together again it tastes a bit weird on all accounts :D

Family of 3 here, cereal eaten every day by DH and DD, caffeine drunk by DH as if it's going out of fashion ... consequently, 1 4pt'er every couple of days, price, well, about £1.60 I think per 4pter.

I will only buy organic and I prefer to buy it from Waitrose as they give a fairer price to the dairy farmers, however, I will buy organic milk from other places if necessary.

I also have long life semi skimmed organic milk in ... just in case ... we run out. Oh and because we don't live close to a supermarket, I always buy in bulk and freeze it..... works fine for us, just remember to shake the bottle before pouring!

How do you know when it's properly defrosted? (Pet question of mine at the moment.)

when its all liquid again :p:D

i think if you take it out the freezer the night before you need it and leave it defrost in the fridge for a good 12 hours or so it shoud be fine. give it a shake before you pour just to be safe

  • i buy about 8 pints a week semi skimmed (for 2 kids and OH) but I cant stomach milk so have Rice Dream rice milk which is expensive - £1.45 ish for 1 litre carton in ASDA, Tesco etc that lasts me 2 days cos I like me cups of tea, however I have found that local health food shop sells it for 79p a carton (big saving on ASDA, Tescos) so getting it there in bulk!

I posted this on another thread ( not on the Old Style board) and my suggestion was met with some disgust but I'm going to repeat it here anyway because it's been a huge moneysaver for us ( another loads - a - milk family ).
We use semiskimmed, but have started buying full fat milk and diluting it 50/50 with water. We really can't taste much difference & it's halved the bill ( which has been noticeable).
Obviously you aren't getting the full amount of vitamins etc but I've always thought that we would probably get enough elsewhere as our diet's pretty balanced.
    Sorry if this offends anyone!

Blimey, we buy one pint a week and usually end up throwing half of it down the sink! OH has a drop in tea but I have herbal tea so we don't need much. Neither of us likes milky food like rice pudding.

It annoys me to throw food away so I bought some high fibre cereal intending to have one bowl a week to use up the surplus milk. Trouble is I don't really like cereal so now I've got stale cereal and the milk is still going off before we finish it :o

I used to but semi-skim from Tesco but now buy full-fat (same price) and water down to taste like semi. Same amount of milk but half the price. HTH

  • My god i can't believe how much milk people go through.

i've never thought about it so here goes

    Family of 7 2 adults 5 kids

buy 8pints every2-3days depending if my son of 3 decides he's gonna drink it like it's going out of fashion and maybe the odd extra pint if i'm gonna use milk for cooking (rice pudding or custard etc).

oh my god thats 24pints of milk a week that about £32 a month just on milk alone sometimes more thats without extras.

well i was gob smacked when ready how much everyone else goes through but looks like i'm just the same LOL
  • I've just recently started ordering from the milkman as I was finding that with the fortnightly shop I would always have to top up with milk and the inevitable shop trip would just ruin the budget. I'm trying to stop going to tesco's and just shop online as they're just too good at getting you to buy stuff you don't need.

We go through a lot of milk I've got twins age 18months so they still have bottles morning and night and sometimes in the day and a three year old who loves her chocolate milk am and pm. Then there's cereal etc. I only have milk in tea which depending on the kids varies in amounts. I'm hoping the milkman will save us a bit. Just got to sort the fruit and veg top up now.
