how much do you spend a week on milk?

Options
i seem to spend about £10 a week o n milk.

there is 3 of us.

me and oh buy 4 6pintas (2 for £3) so that £6

then dd blue milk buy 4 2 pintas (2 for £2) so thats £4

we have a four weekly budget of £100 so the milk alone costs nearly half of the shopping budget.

and then there is the cereal to go with it. thats the most expensive thing i buy.

just wondered if i was the only one

We are a family of 5 adults and use about 6-8 pints a day so on average costs us £12-£14 a week

A subject close to my heart this week! Last week we started with the milkman after always having to go out to get milk as goes faster than we buy it! Its a 5 mile drive to closest shop so by the time paid for diesel and then the 'while im in the shop' buy something could have done without it made it much more expensive than could have been. So booked the milkman. I ordered 6 litres which come on a mon, wed and Sat. Our first delivery was wed and i was amazed when we had run out on the friday!!! Im paying £4.20 per 6 litres. 70p a litre. Costs more than tescos but going out to top up mid week was working out as £5 for 2 litres!!
BTW - we are family of 5, kids aged 1,2 and 5. We had pancackes for breakfast yesterday and 2litres went within a few hours of waking!

We get through 5 x 4pts per week and often have to go out for more if we have puddings in the cooler months. There are 4 of us 2 adults, 2 teenagers. My youngest son loves his cereal and uses masses of milk in the mornings. Really cuts into our budget but I've noticed that Tesco and Morrisons have been doing 2 x 4pts for £2.

  • We are the same too. Teenage sons are known for excessive milk and cereal consumption. I also get through masses of bread. farmfoods,Netto and Aldi are good for milk and for cereal Aldi is great- I get their version of Sreddies for 99p.

i make my own bread and its much cheaper than buying a loaf although not if you buy value brands but then i think they don't taste very nice - problem with homemade bread is that its yummy and gets eaten really quickly!

When I was part of a couple I bought 7 pints of milk off the milkman every week - oner per day. His prices went up to 49p per pint, making £3.43 per week and I paid him once a fortnight.

Now I'm on my own I'm getting 3 x 2 pints from Tesco at 62p per bottle, totalling £1.62. One pint less for almost half the price. I think single pints are about 34p.

I can't get anything bigger than the 2 pint bottles because I don't drink it quick enough. It has to be used in 3 days and when you have it fresh on cereal, you can tell when it's starting to turn.

During the hols been getting 6 2pint cartons delivered a week off the milkman (doesn't deliver in glass bottles or daily) and have had to buy 6 pints in addition to that over the last 5 weeks so wasn't too bad a guess....used to be a lot more, DS2 used to drink about 3-4 pints a day but had to stop this as he was piling weight on.

I use dried milk for the breadmaker and in some recipes, just easier that way.
One day I might be more organised...........

I always try to buy Either Local Choice milk (Tesco) or the Farm Assured (Sainsbury's) because everyone knows that milk is too cheap anyway and Farmers are struggling. The Sainsbury's milk is only 5p more per 2 pints, hardly a lot.

There is something inside me that doesn't like buying normal milk, I suppose it is like buying battery eggs rather than free-range.
