Poll started 24 November 2015
Is the landline dead?
It seems the landline is dying with more and more people relying on a combination of their mobile phones and internet connections. But has it died yet?
We last ran this poll in 2012 and wanted to see if anything's changed.
How many of your (non-work) calls made and received are on your home phone compared to mobile/web calls?
Did you vote? Are you surprised at the results so far? Have your say below. To see the results from last time, click here.

I only ever use my landline.
I have got a mobile, somewhere. I use to leave it in the glove-box of the car in case of emergency, but i hardly use the car for anything more than small local journeys now.
But i have been thinking should i buy myself a 'decent' mobile and drop the landline. I've had my letter from Virgin telling me they're raising the Internet charges, maybe i can get a better deal.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

We only really have the landline for the internet, but because it's there we do use it, mainly for calls which I am going to claim back the cost of, because our mobiles are PAYG so we don't get a bill. I maybe make 1 phone call a week.
We do receive phone calls on the landline though as the mother-in-hell and my parents both chose to ring our landline, but if we didn't have it, they wouldn't object to ringing our mobiles, it's mainly just habit.
Of the calls in to our landline I would say 4-5 personal ones per week, and 20-30 spam ones.Zebras rock0 -
I'm sure there will be a lot of people like me, with a landline used only to provide an ADSL connection. So I have a working socket, and in a drawer somewhere I have an old telephone I could potentially plug into it. But I'm never going to do so except in very unusual circumstances, so does that count as "Do not have a home phone" or "Never use my home phone"?
The survey could do with being a bit clearer in this situation or you'll get a mix of answers.0 -

only have a landline to get broadband, and only plug a phone into it to test the line if we are having problems with the broadband (actually had to buy one last time we had a problem)0

I only use my mobile for work related calls (its a works phone), everything else is on my landline0

I had a landline in my flat a couple of years ago, but very rarely used it, and it never rang (having never given the number out). Then I moved in with a partner and her landline used to rung several times a day (always spam).
Having now moved out into my own place, I haven't bothered getting a landline phone (although I have an internet connection of course). I have been thinking I might get a landline, because I live in a poor signal area and there is only a weak mobile signal on one side of the house, but to be honest I enjoy the isolation0 -
We managed over a year with no home phone at all as I have unlimited tethering with my phone contract. 3 don't offer unlimited tethering anymore and are phasing it out on existing contracts so we're back to having a landline just so we can have internet.
There is no phone plugged into it.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I'm 23 and haven't had a landline since I moved out 3-4 years ago. I spend a lot of my time on the internet and download a lot so fast fibre broadband (which doesn't need a telephone line) is a must. Then I also need a decent amount of mobile internet for when I'm out which always comes bundled with more minutes than I ever use so paying for a landline really isn't worth it for me. Everyone I know around my age is the same.0

Landline for inclusive calls in the evenings and weekends.
All incoming calls and peak rate outgoing calls are via VoIP.
Hardly ever use the mobile.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
