VW finance cancellation

  • You don't need to prove that. All emissions and fuel-consumption figures published in the UK are, and have been for years, based on standardised European rolling-road testing, performed using tightly-controlled parameters in a controlled environment.

I don't think it matters on what car I will get next to be honest I would go for the same model just at a lower cost due to the lost of trust and fact been driving it for 6 months.

Just to be clear already reluctantly settled compensation for number of issues I have had with car pushing for refund then and hopeing this will be final straw and can get rid of my Friday afternoon car

You don't have a chance. You might as well forget about it now and move on with your life

As someone who calls themselves motorguy I would expect you to realise that the fuel consumption has not changed. For that to have happened a mechanical or electrical adjustment would have had to occur.
As for the emissions, no it was not bought for a specific emissions output but to be within a low banding. Some of us do make a small effort to be eco friendly.

Cars are not eco friendly (even just manufacturing and shipping them produces plenty of emissions) but on the plus side, VW are actually a bit better than many others for their emissions based on actual measured data:

    https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/sep/30/wide-range-of-cars-emit-more-pollution-in-real-driving-conditions-tests-show

    https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/sep/14/nine-out-of-10-new-diesel-cars-in-breach-of-eu-pollution-rules-report-finds

Other manufacturers may not be fitting cheat devices their car but they're bending the rules so ridiculously far that their cars are producing vastly more Nox in practice and in many cases far more than VW cars. So if people genuinely bought their cars based on their stated Nox emissions compared to other manufacturers (*cough*) then there's nothing to worry about.

  • I can assure you that nobody ever bought a car based on NOx emissions.

In fact, passenger cars are ridiculously bad. I have clients in the HGV world - real-world stringent testing, Euro VI and AdBlue introduced long before passenger cars, regular safety inspections, mandatory maintenance programmes and drivers and operators who give a toss if a warning light comes on.

Most modern diesel superminis now rank alongside HGVs and busses in real world NOx performance...

My Toyota is only doing 55mpg when the specs say I should be doing 80, do you think I have a case to get compensation lolz

Instead of all that whining small print about driving conditions etc. why don't car manufacturers simply use the magic "upto" ?

Seems to work for broadband providers.......;)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Exactly, they'd find it bloody difficult since they're not quoted by any of the manufacturers, or even tested in the UK.
  • it shouldn't matter on if you are mass environmentalist or not, The point is the company deliberately mislead it customers at the point of sale (even by a few MPGs they still deliberately miss lead the consumer something your not aloud to do). In my case at least there has been several issues with the car and it has already been to garage 4 times for separate repairs and they have already paid out on the issues they could not fix. This is surely all factors in my decision to reject the vehicle i have already given them a reasonable chance to fix all the issues only for more to appear at what point can i say nothing less than a refund will do?
  • The emission figures are published online so is it down to me to prove i looked on the website and took this information in at the point of sale?

I agree the reality is most haven't even looked at these figures but if you have and they were deciding factor at the point of sale VW are the ones in the wrong.

Well if vw are in the wrong then so is every other manufacturer, the emissions and mpg figures they publish bear little resemblance to the actual emissions the car produces. Furthermore as has been pointed out several times, no-one bought these cars based on nitrous oxide emission levels because if they were genuinely concerned about nox emissions they wouldn't have bought a diesel as they're far worse than petrols in that regards.

That's how the problem started in the US because unlike Europe, they don't set different limits for diesels and petrols making it difficult for the diesels to pass the same nox limits as petrols.
