We don't have a green bin as I won't pay our council for the privilege. They have always picked up garden waste in black bin until today. Phoned council to complain. Told they won't pick up any garden waste from black bin. Told me that they would only pick up garden waste in green bin only or to take garden waste to local tip to dispose (several mile trip). My solution. I will just cover the garden waste up with a tied up black bag and wait for the next black bag collection. Talk about jobsworth but easily sorted as detailed above.

Solution 2: Put the garden waste in the green bin.

£36 a year or £2 a bag for green bin/waste collection round here. Given our tiny garden I refuse to pay it and hide the small amount of green waste in our black bin (never leave it on top) and I've never had a problem. Even in landfill the green waste will compost soon enough anyway.
Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard

Crikey! In oxfordshire we get a rubbish bin, garden bin, food bin and recycling bin.

We do seem to pay a lot of council tax though, so there were a lot of cross people when they released a survey about how much we were willing to pay for garden waste! The facebook consensus was burn it or hide it in the rubbish bin!

    Similar in Wiltshire.
They made a huge deal about not putting the council tax up too much and 2 weeks later slapped a £40 annual charge of the green bin.
Around 20% of households simply told them to stuff the bin and put their garden refuse in the normal household waste bin.

So they'd have a lot of fun if they tried leaving garden refuse behind around here!

The recycling centre has crap opening hours during the week and the queues at weekends have to be seen to be believed.

I think more people would have accepted a rise in the CT but to try to sneak it in like that was just a no-no.
  • I swept up all leaves from mine and surrounding neighbours outside areas, put them in a thick black rubbish bag and felt, well its street rubbish. We have a general rubbish collection (black bag only, I paid £75 for a large bin to keep the rubbish bags away from dogs) and a cardboard/plastics bin. That's my contribution. Would love to have the leaves put into recycing, I have only a back yard, so can't compost too easily and won't pay for green rubbish to be picked up on the odd occasion I clean the streets.

I have to admit not being to kindly disposed to the local councils refuse policy etc as when I moved into my (repo) house the bin was missing and they tried very hard to charge me £60 for a new bin the cheeky beggars!

Apparently bins belong to 'the household' and not the house -how nuts is that?
The councils attitude was - we won't pick up rubbish not in a proper bin, but we'll happily keep charging you the CT portion of refuse collection though!

I have no intention of chucking a smelly bin in the removals van when I move next year so they'd better have bin waiting at the other house or I'll go back and pinch it!
  • The dustmen emptied my black dustbin with the garden waste from last week this morning.

Talk about jobs worth but the problem has gone away lol.
  • I will continue to what I am currently doing.

Just to let you know, I phoned the council anonymously to let them know my black bin had been emptied this morning. She asked for my name and address, which I politely declined to provide.

Now back to work at my employer.

Thrilling. Having leaves removed in your household waste was clearly a big result for a small person.

Thanks. For info, they also picked up grass cuttings and lots of other garden stuff. The bin was very heavy so I was very pleased the bin was got rid of.
