Silly council not picking up garden waste in black bin lol !

We don't have a green bin as I won't pay our council for the privilege. They have always picked up garden waste in black bin until today. Phoned council to complain. Told they won't pick up any garden waste from black bin. Told me that they would only pick up garden waste in green bin only or to take garden waste to local tip to dispose (several mile trip). My solution. I will just cover the garden waste up with a tied up black bag and wait for the next black bag collection. Talk about jobsworth but easily sorted as detailed above.

That's pretty standard, why are you surprised?
I believe they are only obliged to collect "Household waste"

The problem with doing that is that as you have contacted the council about this, I wouldn't put it past them to get one of the refuse disposal operatives (dustmen) to check inside your black bags for any garden waste and if they spot any, may well stop them from taking the rubbish away.

Do you live on the Wirral Op ? They do that over there don't they.
I know when Knowsley started talking about charging in the past i wondered if i should bother. I've got 2 blue (grass) bins which are often both full, but the maroon one for general rubbish i can go for months before it's full. And i thought why should i pay extra to get rid of the green waste when i'm hardly use the general rubbish bin which we don't pay extra for.

You'll get away with it once, next time they'll take the black back out and leave the garden waste and everything under it.

And then may refuse to take any away, as it should be. Op always wants something for nothing

I tend to take his posts with a large pinch of salt ;)
  • They recycle garden waste and sell it as compost. Landfill costs councils a huge amount and it's you that has to pay for it, that's why everyone is into recycling because we're running out of places to bury landfill. Do the right thing. Either pay to get your garden waste removed of compost it yourself.

I'm reading the OP as the Council not picking up the garden waste simply because of the colour of the bin. OP doesn't make it clear whether he is using the same bin for both domestic and garden waste.

If they are separate bins, why not simply paint the word GREEN on the black garden waste bin? After all, it'll then be a green bin. ;):D

It sounds like the OP is not wanting to pay the charge his/her council want to remove garden waste and is putting it into his household rubbish bin.
