lets remember the lovely Diane Abbott, who didn't want her son going to the local Hackney comprehensive school because of all those afro caribbean chavs
but that's just her0 -

True they "probably" do make a financial contribution but I have this old fashioned idea that there are jobs that are valuable (ie have a good purpose and useful outcome for society) and those that just exist and benefit nobody but the one doing them or people like them). I say "probably" because they are quite likely to be self employed and organise their affairs to avoid paying the taxes that people like paramedics have to pay.
I also wonder if the management consultant (Tom?) is that good at his job. After all he probably spends his days telling firms how to be more efficient and organised, whereas he seems incapable of organising his own life efficiently despite a relatively high income and wealth compared to those he probably tries hard to make redundant.
Sorry you have caught me on cynical Tuesday!
Your views on taxation simply don't square with the reality which is that the top 10% pay the vast majority of tax in the UK.
It's a myth that all the moderately well off are evading and avoiding billions by dodgy means.
The top 0.5% or something? Maybe.0 -
Are these real people?
If they cannot survive on these poverty wages they should try getting a real job that makes a useful contribution to society.
They can easily survive.
Its the fact they have a large mortgage on a London house and expect to send their kids to expensive state schools that is the problem.0 -
£1,500 a month on food is about £350 a week or £50/day. If you have brekkie and lunch from Eat or Pret each day, as lots of City workers do, then it soon goes.
Of course, "food" is also slang for something else which can cost substantially more than £1,500 a month if you get a habit ."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
Whilst on a combined income of less than £25K, We put our kids through an education system which was only too willing to nurture our children, and make them enjoy learning, so much so that one got 3A*'s at A level and a 1st In MCHEM and the other got 2A*s and an A at A level and is studying Pharmacy.
Given that my wife gave up work to nurture our children, you might say the investment / commitment / Sacrifice to our lifestyle for the last 20 years was considerably greater as a percentage than these people. I'd say this was a £500K commitment. About the same as putting 2 children through a private education?0 -

Not at all, I am sure that there are many (probably a majority) well paid people who pay all their taxes. But that does not mean that they all do this. Some are just plan greedy.
It may be the case that there two individuals are on PAYE and pay every penny they are required to. But even that would not explain their inability to cope on £190K unless they are just another couple living beyond their means, which can apply on much lower incomes.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0
