    Hi There,

I joined MSE yesterday after hovering around for a few weeks trying to pluck up the nerve/energy to join.

I've enjoyed reading your diary. I am a very emotional eater too and have put on three and a half pounds this week (i go to slimming world) through comfort eater as a result of being ill, stressed, tired, emotional, angry and pretty much every other bad emotion.

It looks like you have made some very positive steps. I am also a bad one for spending on breakfasts/lunches and dinners when i have food in the house. I never used to have this habit. In fact when i was at University i can count on one hand the amount of times i bought food in the canteen in my whole three years there as i refused to buy food when i lived on campus and could go to my flat and eat a sandwich there. I have made a packed lunch for tomorrow, and i am hoping for a NSD.

    Good luck and keep going!

    Hello!

So glad you have started your own journey. I thinking making that first initial post is the first step and it gets a little easier as you keep going. How are you finding Slimming World? I have always thought about attending. I've quit the gym and I've been walking/jogging outside. It's not fun when it's cold and rainy though!

At least you've had good habits once upon a time. I've always had bad habits where I've bought food unnecessarily. I used to eat out of boredom. Never as much as I do so now but these days I tend to eat whenever I'm stressed or upset which is every single day thanks to my job. I really want to break the habit!

To make lunches easier, I tend to take left overs or prepare my sandwich/wrap the night before. It's nice not having to queue up in the canteen for your food! And the canteen where I work is ridiculously overpriced!

  • Good evening.

Today was not a NSD. It was supposed to be and it WOULD have been if it hadn't been for a surprise collection coming around for not one but two people's birthdays. I ended up putting in £5 (£2.50 for each person.) I would have paid a little less however, a £5 note was all I had. I wouldn't normally mind however, I don't even know who these two people are.

Nothing else really to report. So glad Monday is over and done with. Mondays are the worst. Today felt like such a long day. Going to go prepare lunch for tomorrow (chicken wraps, hummus and carrot sticks and some fruit) and then I shall make a cup of tea and have a chunk of dark chocolate while I read another chapter or two of my book before going to bed.

  • Tuesday and Wednesday were both NSDs. So happy that half the week is done! We're over the hill, just two more days to go and then it's the weekend!

Nothing much to report except, I was really craving a proper coffee today. And by proper, I mean a barista style coffee. But I resisted and instead, got myself a free cup of coffee from the machine at work. It really does taste awful but it's better than nothing. I may invest in a Thermos so I can take some decent coffee with me to work.

Treat day is on Friday, so I may buy something from Starbucks or Nero's then.

Hoping to have an early night. Going to do the usual. Prepare a packed lunch for tomorrow ( a cream cheese and ham bagel, a packet of crisps and an apple) have a cup of tea and read for a bit before going to bed. Can't do much more than that. This job is really sapping my energy.

    Hope everyone's having a good week! x

Haven't updated in two days which was naughty of me. Things have been so rushed recently. With work and with personal life, what with Christmas coming up. I can't wait. Managed to get most of my presents wrapped. Just need to put the tree up tomorrow.

Thursday was an NSD. Friday was treat day and yes, I did treat myself to a Costa Gingerbread & Cream Latte and a salted caramel brownie which was absolutely divine. I was there for about an hour with a good book. And it was nice to just sit in a warm place while watching shoppers outside, merrily shopping away. it looked very festive!

Going to re-jiggle my debts in the New Year. Going to have another chat with Barclays and if they allow me, I will try and transfer more over so that I only have two debts to pay: Barclaycard and Loan. Rather than splitting payments to 3 or 4 debts. Simplicity is key. Especially for me. :)

Amazing news is that I came across two debit cards that I didn't even know I had. Halifax and Santander. I was set up for online statements for each and I hadn't been able to use internet banking for quite some time as I'd forgotten my details. Popped into each branch to close them on Thursday as they were old accounts and had a really pleasant surprise. Halifax account had £891.27 and Santander had £311.09.

This means I was able to pay off my £1000 overdraft and I put the extra £202.36 towards my Barclaycard debt! :) It feels so good to look at my balance and see the amount (it's a small amount but still) in black! No more red! It was depressing to have my full salary paid it and STILL be overdrawn so I'm really chuffed with this!

My phone contract is coming to an end soon. My current one is £55.

This was bought nearly two years ago before I even knew what MSE was. I am definitely going to change to a cheaper contract. Paying £55 is ridiculous especially when I don't even use all the minutes, text and data.

Today hasn't been good. Been plagued with a headache since I woke up. Having a very lazy day. Going to brave Christmas shopping next week for a few bits and pieces. Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend! xx

  • Fantastic news on finding those accounts :) What a Christmas present!

Re: the coffee. Can you ask your family for a coffee maker at home so you can make some decent stuff in the morning and put in a flask to keep you going. I have to have my proper coffee first thing. Or are you allowed to have a cafetiere at work? You can buy a small one cheaply or ask Santa for one?

Omg! Seriously jealous! Wish I could find cards with that much money on! Just shows you how empowering taking care of your finances is! That's fantastic news and one more debt off the list. I'm going to sort out my overdraft. It's much better handling your finances when your main account is in the black. This is what I want. Well done you.
And last posters idea is really good - still treat yourself but cheaper?? X

Definitely, very happy about that! :D

What a good idea. My parents keep asking me what I want and I was struggling. I didn't even think of the obvious. I think I will ask them to get me a coffee maker as a Christmas pressie. Thanks for the suggestion! And nope, we don't have one at work. :(

It was a complete shock but a nice one. Things like that don't happen. I never find random notes in old jackets and bags or anything. Very happy as it's given my debt busting a mighty push! And yes, getting your overdraft sorted makes you feel so much better both emotionally and mentally. It's awful to look at your bank balance and always see it in the red! I hope you can get your overdraft sorted soon! x And yup, the coffee maker idea is fab! I shall be asking Santa for that.

  • Hi
Santa brought me a Coffee Maker last Christmas. Its the Krupps Dolce Gusto and I love it. So easy to use and keep clean.

    Visitors love it too :D

You can buy the pods in all of the supermarkets. Latte,Skinny Latte, Chocochino, Caramel Chocochino, Cappuccino. You name it they do it. They are usually on special 2 for £xxx

Hope Santa brings you a nice one :)
