You do realise that speed bumps are there to reduce vehicle speeds?
30mph is a maximum speed not a target.
And just because the speed limit is 30mph doesn't mean it is safe to do that speed other wise people would be turning into sidestreets at 30mph.0 -
One small point.
Most speed bumps can be driven over at much more than 30mph with no damage to the car.
One of the worst things you can do is brake at the last minute as then there is no suspension travel left to absorb the impact with the speed bump.
The only times I have seen a car damaged by a speed bump was when the driver was braking as they hit it at speed.
I know of one person that snapped the front engine mount of an Astra (53 plate) when hitting a speed bump hard on the brakes.
In most cases the chicanes are more effective at slowing traffic down and don't have detrimental effects on nearby houses and localised exhaust emissions due to constant slowing and accelerating.0 -

And you can't get stuck on it if your car is lowered.0 -

It depends on the car.
If the car is built to standard heights etc then yes.
If the car is a sporty model or has been modified then potentially no.
There are regulations governing the height, width, pitch etc of speed bumps but they are intended for normal cars with their 4-8" of ground clearance, but some people love to lower the suspension and put on skirts which take that clearance right down.0 -

I think that speed bumps should be designed to restrict one's speed to the legal limit- i.e I should be able to safely drive over a speed bump at 30 in a 30 zone. I'd expect a bump in a 20 zone to be OK to drive over at 20. Considering the damn things are supposed to confine one's speed to the legal limit, if the local authority wants people to drive at 15 or 20 in a 30 zone, change the speed limit!
As others have said, it depends on your vehicle to some extent, but the humps and spacings are designed to slow you to a speed such that when drivers accelerate between the humps, they don't exceed the limit. It is entirely logical for the humps to slow people below the posted limit. Of course, they wouldn't be needed if people drive to the conditions rather than the limit.
Either the OP is trolling, or this thread really didn't go how they expected it to.0
