As well as M&M Direct ... Sports Direct's clearance section has odd bits 'n bobs.

Every year in Aberdeen the Instant Neighbour charity runs an appeal for Christmas presents for children who otherwise wouldn't get anything.

This year I picked up a gift tag for a 17 year old boy so now I'm looking for gift ideas. I was thinking about getting him something warm (hat, gloves or scarf), chocolate coins (because everyone should have chocolate coins at Christmas), a book (but I've got no idea what books a 17 year old boy might like) and maybe some smellies. It sounds a bit dull but without knowing the boy it's all just a stab in the dark.

    Do you have any suggestions?

    I love chocolate coins

If you're looking at books try KSI's i'm a bell*end. He's a massive youtuber who is popular with kids and teens. He has over 10 million subs so i would be confident in saying a 17 year old knows him.

!!!!!!! gets blocked out so i put the star bell*end

I would think about what someone of this age might want, so would buy a voucher (Sports Direct, Odeon or Nandos), massive bar of Cadbury's Whole Nut, a miniature sized whisky and a cheap all-in-one tool (Robert Dyas have a few.)

I would avoid anything boring by general definition (socks, pants, hankies, scarf, toiletries.)

I have a 15yo son. I bought him this yesterday, currently on offer at Boots

It covered some items we thought he lacked for school/college, an extra rucksack, a water bottle as well as some toiletries.

I know from other relatives he is receiving a cinema gift card.

He also gets through loads of headphones. I think this is the first year we haven't requested any and I'm tempted to buy them anyway because I can't see the current lot lasting till next Christmas.

    selection pack
    pringles
    heroes/celebrations
    supernoodles/instant pasta things
    lynx
mouthwash (wouldn't get round to buying it himself)
    electric toothbrush (!)
    head and shoulders
He also thinks that there should be an exfoliating bodywash called knees and toes.

(This was a brainstorm from my DS)

Oh dear me, socks, pants, hats and scarves? Sounds like something you'd receive from Great Aunt Agatha. He needs something *fun*, but it's hard to advise unless we know the budget.

Everyone I know loves these though, whatever the age:

I know some of my suggestions are boring. However, this gift is for someone whose family rely on food banks, that's assuming he hasn't been punted out the door to fend for himself at 17. So that's why I'll get a few things, some fun, some practical.

I think the key is it's for children who wouldn't otherwise get anything

There's something awfully sad about a seventeen year old who has no-one who can buy him gifts so I'd probably go for a fashionable scarf and gloves , a cinema voucher , sweets (to eat at the cinema ?) and I'd probably buy a cheap wallet and stick a tenner in it.
