a bit of a fantasy - what would you do if you had a £100000 windfall?
As I'm terminally ill, it would allow my husband to take a sabbatical from work. Then I'd use some of the money to rent a flat down in Swanage during the summer months.
Spend some on the house, then stick rest away, leaving some for my kids and granddaughter.
I was very grateful to receive an inheritance this year. Not quite as much as you're asking about, but near enough.
£10k went immediately to refilling our emergency cash (drained having moved house). Almost half went into the mortgage (max we can overpay this year).
We've allowed approx £5k for nice things for us - it's been a very stressful year, and being able to buy new phones (also a new sofa, a new computer so OH can work at home on occasion, and a vacuum cleaner - oh the excitement!) and go out for a posh meal is a really welcome treat for Christmas
The remainder will be split between repaying into our S&S ISA (that we had to drain to replace my car that broke just after we moved - great timing *sigh*), and a smaller overpayment on the mortgage next year.
So... a small amount of frivolity with a healthy dose of practicality Reducing our mortgage payments will make a huge difference to our household finances over the next few years.
Mortgage when started: £330,995
