How much do you save each month?

I look at everyone posting how much they save and feel a bit disheartened to be honest. I've always tried to save as much as I can, and thought I was doing okay however it would seem not
Don't be disheartened curlywurly.. We are all in entirely different situations. One day you might be able to save more. One thing to remember is that you can't take it with you, so aim for some quality of life too :rotfl:If you change nothing, nothing will change!!0 -
Usually nothing. Taking a typical salary, by the time I've paid to keep the roof over my head, the council tax and frugal/basic household bills, there's usually just £100-300/month left over to pay for keeping the car on the road (to get to work), all food, all clothes, haircuts, everything else.
So I accumulate a few quid across the year, knowing it'll be spent once something big occurs.
Net balance across a year has typically been: break even.... having not gone out or bought anything special or been anywhere at all.
I've only ever once earnt as much as the "average salary", for a brief period about 15 years ago.0 -
I don't see why you WOULDN'T put money into the best paying accounts you can find. IMO it's lazy and daft not to try.
If you were offered £5 or £50 what would you take?
Fair enough, if you don't qualify for a current account, then obviously that's not daft. Finding the next best paying account would be the sensible option. Under your bed is pointless, unsafe and definitely makes your money worth less over time.
Save with no hassle... I'm going to sound like a broken record.. lazy and daft IMO :rotfl:
I was daft for almost a year. I had £2.5k sitting in a 1% ISA doing nout and I CBA to do anything. I have since moved it to a 5% account. Much more sensible. Should have done it sooner, but I was lazy.
We can all have our opinions though. I still agree with you that saving something is better than nothing.
Yes everyone can have an opinion, but you certainly shouldn't play all high and mighty about it, there is such a thing as having tact, and being courteous. We're all after the same thing, doesn't make sense to bash people at the same time.

Thought I'd chime in as someone who is on a low salary, as most replies so far are from people with higher incomes.
Including pension contributions my net worth probably increases around £500 a month. I am just having trouble figuring out how much should go into cash, pension, or investments. In April with a small payrise my net contributions will probably increase to £600, I plan to split the £600 50/50 between pension and a S&S ISA.
Any feedback would be appreciated.0 -

As for me, I earn sub £17k. Including pension contributions my net worth probably increases around £500 a month. I don't see "high and mighty" at all as they included themselves in the post. Anyone offended by people's posts on the internet need to man up a little.
I agree that this is a money saving forum and most of us are looking to make as much money as we can, not waste opportunities stuffing it under a bed or in jars.0 -
Back to the OP's question, I save around £150 a month. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I don't earn big bucks either.0

I save £600 a month. £175 from my savings interest and £425 from my other incomes.0

I am not offended with it, I don't see the need to make a judgement on people,, calling people lazy isn't especially necesary, but maybe because I am used to being in the debt subforum I am used to people being kinder I'd like to see some of his replies in there.YorkshireBoy wrote: »Nothing in cash? Thankfully yes!0 -
Oh my I didn't think anyone would get upset over my comment. Apologies. I was calling myself lazy and daft in the same message because I did the same thing with a few thousand I had saved.

Lippy1923 was calling herself lazy and daft. Maybe you should actually read stuff properly before responding.
If anyone is getting "high and mighty" it's yersell!!
OP; pay self most of my take home pay at start of month then try to spend as little as possible. Mortgage free and no kids helps.
Boasting?! nah, would mention the ex-model wife and full head of hair at 53 if I wanted to do that.
Some very odd attitudes on this thread, (IMHO)0
