But that is not inconsistent with returning it if there is a return address, is it ? I understand disposing of them if there if they can't take them on and have no indication of where to return them to (with associated costs).

I wonder, if it actually went to the small claims court, if The man on the Clapham Omnibus (link to Wiki for the legal bit) might well take the reasonable interpretation of that contract to mean "You've got a bloody return address, a reasonable person would see fit to use it"

A reasonable person wouldn't have stated " it's an advent calendar" when we now see it was actually a large collection of makeup products and prohibited items.

The "reasonable person" in this context is a massive operation with thousands of parcels to deal with everyday. Given that context, the practicality of getting the parcel back to the sender seems unduly burdensome, and is far more complex than your interpretation.

So you're arguing that it's unreasonable to expect a parcel delivery company to deliver a parcel.

So where are the items being opened? Just any old area in any office?

All this hand-wringing about just how difficult it is. My initial point still stands: "If someone posted on here about Royal Mail making a mistake and misdelivering a parcel to them, they'd be up in arms at the suggestion the recipient could keep it and sell the contents."

If an individual receives the wrong parcel and posted here, saying it was cluttering up their house and that they didn't have time to take it back to a post office, you'd have no sympathy for them.

Amazing the way your beloved Royal Mail can do no wrong.

    It's not a mistake.

It's someone sending potentially dangerous and prohibited items by lying.

Advent calendars still have a very strong link to chocolate advent calendars. If someone told me to get one, that's what I'd get, not a candle or beauty or whisky one.

If the OPs girlfriend had said 'cosmetics' the person on the desk would have very likely mentioned perfume and nail varnish. I've sent cosmetics many times and they always ask me to clarify exactly what.

I've also sent nail varnish within the uk and a large silver sticker was applied, suggesting these parcels are indeed treated differently.

Except it wasn't a lie, because it was advent calendars.

The fact that's the only weak point you pick up on, shows how little you can actually argue with.

It doesn't matter. Lies were told, whether on purpose or by omitting important information and money has been lost. No ones fault but their own.
