Living my life in the rural villages of two counties, I have lost track of the number and variety of animals my cars, or those in which I travelled, have run into, over and through. The two worst experiences did not happen near either village, though. The first was when I served in Germany, as my mate's VW Beetle ploughed into a full grown stag. Three of us had just attended an invitation to a great party night at a British Army Hospital, with lots of very attractive QARANC nurses, so were possibly distracted when this huge animal bounded out of the forested hills either side of the car. I was front seat pasenger and another mate was flat-out asleep in the rear seat. The stag hit foursquare on the bonnet, flattened that and the wings, then took off as if it had hit something of no consequence. The VW spun 3 times in its own length and came to rest with the front wheels partially in a ditch. After switching off the engine, the only sound was the snoring from the back seat: our mate had not even been disturbed, but woke up to the sound of our hysterical laughter.
It took over an hour to get the car out of the ditch and back on the road, then we had to straighten the bodywork as the wings were contacting the front tyres. Fortunately it was a Saturday, as we did not get back to camp until daylight. I still laugh about that with my surviving mate on the phone now, although sadly our other mate was killed in Ireland.
The second worst experience happened two years ago, as I drove through a very small village without street lights. A cat ran out and gave me no chance to stop in time. Being an animal lover, having had cats and dogs, both those deaths were upsetting, but the cat affected me more. I tried to take its dead body to the nearest house, but no one would come to the door. They admitted that they owned a black cat and it was theirs, so I left it on the lawn. So I went home and gave my own cat extra fuss, which of course received the usual bored, haughty look.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I was along side a lorry, and the car in front suddenly swerved into the middle lane, and there suddenly in front was a swan looking straight at me. I just braced myself, and hit it square on. at the last moment it seemed to close it's eyes. (probably the bright headlights)
I then stopped on the hard shoulder about 1/2 mile up and phoned the emergency phone to let the police know that there was now a hazard in the carriage way.
No damage, but for weeks feathers would turn up across the back of the car.
My wife's great uncle Ira, (RIP) told me a story of how as a 16 year old he was a dispatch rider for the Birmingham Post, and had to travel to South Wales on a regular basis on a big BSA. He had a short cut via a farm yard and a goose would chase him as he rode past. One day he wound it up to 60 and stuck his leg out. and hour later he arrived back in Birmingham, to find not only had he killed the goose, but he'd broken his leg too.
Big !!!!!!s these geese.
:T Love it.

The 530d will exceed 155mph.
A recently built (last 8 or 9 years or so) one won't - not even downhill with a following wind.
Unless you take the speed limiter off of course.
BMW will remove the limiter, but your warranty goes out the window. They will need to see evidence of your intended motorsport use of the car and your competition driving licence too.
All German built cars now have their speed limited to 250kph (155mph)
This was part of an unwritten agreement from German car manufacturers (and a few others including Italy I believe) in order for the German Government to abandon mandatory universal speed limits on the Autobahnen.
There were many things involved in the discussions - every Lande now has stretches of unlimited Autobahn, and every Lande has some stretches with permanent limits below 130kph - the recommended maximum speed.0 -

How recently are you talking? That limit came in a few years ago, I've had BMWs, Volvos, VWs and subarus above the so called 155 mph limit.0
