Why is WFA not means tested? It seems ridiculous that the likes of Alan Sugar, Richard Branson or someone with an income of 80/90k can get it. Would it not be better targeted at those who really do need it?

    Thanks Marisco,
Means testing has a number of drawbacks - not least cost and the fact the dividing line can be moved - just look at the argument over tax credits just now where many people are faced with having their household income dramatically reduced. There are far too many people who are in working households who are drawn into fuel poverty already. 2/3 of working people are unable to meet their energy costs according to independent charity National Energy Action

The "average" Scottish Highlands electricity consumer could be paying £64 a year less if not for the 2p per unit differential. Surely removing this would help to reduce fuel poverty.

    Thanks for your question Molerat,
Yes. It can be as much as 6p per unit, depending on the Tariff and where you live, and this is an issue that I have been campaigning on for some time. There needs to be a fairer system in place to address this inequality that doesn't lead to the burden simply being shifted elsewhere.

According to National Energy Action, Cold Homes are a bigger killer than road accidents and drugs or alcohol misuse combined. This statistic surprised even me.
Without giving any names, are you aware of anybody suffering from having to make the choice to turn down or turn off their heating?
