Strange, I have only ever seen one type of remote for all of the Setpal variants (Daewoo, Labgear, BT) like this:

Not sure it is a Setpal variant, the R/C doesn't look anything like that one...Thanks anyway, I appreciate your efforts.;)

The point is my TV has built in Freeview, the sound is fine, it is just crap via my Dawoo PVR, so cannot blame the TV speakers, I just need to know how the sound is on the Humax?

In my case just replace Daewoo with Humax.:D I know the TV speakers are fine with analogue, built in Freeview and Digihome.
The sound is probably ok for many, it's a personal thing. I just couldn't live with the Humax sound. That's if the cooling fan hum doesn't drive you crackers first!
As previously mentioned, good quality SCART leads (QED, gold plated plugs)as used with the Digihome. Also RGB selected.
I am at least able to compare both units, I wonder if when writing reviews the authors are able to compare or is the Humax their first product of this type and they are just following the herd?
In my opinion it (Humax) is not worth the £100 premium! Now refunded and if it was faulty then I don't think I've been rash or hasty in doing that.;)

I am not that bothered about the sound quality, the Daewoo PVR only cost about £75 ish, it is just annoying when the rest of the machine works well.

Not sure I agree with using Gold Plated Scarts tho', if the socket on the unit isn't also Gold Plated, there cannot possibly be any benefit.

    It won't rust = benefit.

I'd also just like to ask/state whether anyone else notices noise from their humax as OAT reports?

I have to say, I leave mine on all the time, but have never noticed even the slightest bit of noise from it...

Nor will a nickel plated one, well I havn't ever seen one that has rusted ever.

It is just an expensive sales pitch, obviously the gold plating can have no real benefit if it is plugged in to a nickel plated socket.

Weakest link and all that..

Yes - the cooling fan - in fairness it is a known "issue" most reports I read before buying mentioned it.

On mine it's not hugely loud and you need a very quiet spot in a prog to hear it at all. If I have it on mute I can hear it ...but I have to make an effort to hear it. If I walked into the room and didn't know it had a hummy in it - the room would have to be 100% silent for me to have a chance of hearing it.

I did wonder when I read the repots how loud it would be - but it's pretty much a non issue as far as I'm concerned - and sound quality varies from good/very good to excellent - though of course as earlier stated I run mine through this equiptment - see post no 32

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying
