We have gad the Humax 9200 for almost 2 years always works and we also use with a lcd with integrated tuner with no problems. It will only record from the digital tuner and not for any other source0

We have a Toppy and love it. It does all the tricks Fifer mentions regarding his Humax. We have not had a moments trouble with it - updates can be downloaded. No idea about the Humax..but can recommend the Toppy 100%I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

On the strength of recommendations here I've just bought a Humax 9200 today. I've been researching DVD recorders for ages & an assistant in Comet last week told me that that all DVD recorders use DVD disks but that it costs the earth to get one where you can watch one channel whilst recording another which is my major requirement.
This one seemed to fit the bill BUT I now realise that programmes are recorded on to a hard drive . . . . sooo - do I take the machine back & start my search all over again or is there a way to 'back up' on to disk those programmes I want to keep?
Any advice anyone??:hello::hello::hello::hello:0 -
I've opted for the Humax 9200, I'm sure the Topfield box is every bit as good but I don't particularly like "tricks" or the option to connect to a pc and "tweak" settings.
I prefer to plug in and use without the necessity or need to fiddle.0 -

I would have thought that the connection to a PC would be a definite plus point, enabling you to transfer and back up certain programs to DVD etc.
Seems to answer anniebeetham's question anyway.:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I think Oldagetraveller was more describing teh Topfields use of TAPs which are programs written by other users that you manuallytransfer from your PC to teh Topfield to do certain functions.
Both the Humax and the Topfield have a connection that can go to a PC to allow you to download programs, but if you then want them on DVD they need to be re-authored into the correct format. The other option is to daisy chain a cheap DVD recorder from teh spare scart on the Humax if you want to archive programmes off that way0 -

Thanks for the info, I'm still looking and have downloaded one of the manuals to read. Still like the sound of the 'extras' though, although I can see that it would not appeal to all users!:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Yeah, that's what I do.
The more recent firmwears on the hummy support playlists, so just set a playlist up with the weeks neighbours on it and leave it burning to disk overnight0 -
your archiving neighbours? I hope you've a very good excuse0
