Warning about charges LLU Unbundled Customers).(Moving your line rental back to BT).

I can understand that BT Openreach have to do some work at the exchange to bring the line back from an unbundled service. I suppose you can't argue with them over a charge for that. However I don't think it should cost more to bring the line back from the unbundled state than it cost to convert it in the beginning.
Do Talktalk pay over £100 to take over the line?
I think that they have to treat all service providers the same. So if they charge Talktalk a price to transfer the line to them I would have thought that they can't charge BT anymore to take it back.
We know that Talktalk charge us £30 connection fee. I wonder how much this reflects the actual amount they pay Openreach?
If they actually pay about £30, surely that is roughly what it should cost to go back to BT.
These are just my thoughts and would be interested to know if anyone has any facts.0 -
Intersting point, Wayneg. I guess either TalkTalk don't pass on all of the charge Openreach make or BT Retail (is that the bit of BT you pay your line rental to?) add something on, or both.0

That possibly is the case to some extent. I wonder how much though! Thinking of this logically BT (retail) would want the charge to be as low as possible in order to attract as many customers back as they can. On that basis I am thinking that if it is true that they charge £125 to come back it is probably what they get charged.
Perhaps this is something that Ofcom is looking into with the growth in unbundled lines.
Lets hope so.0 -
What companies charge end users is up to them, i wouldnt be suprised if some telephony providers actually made a loss just so they could sign customers up & then try to get the money back through the line rental at a later date.
Either way Openreach charges are the same to any customer, not BT. Anyone that doubts it would need to be aware that if it was the case Ofcom would of had a field day with the BT Group.0 -
I had signed up to a company called talk24 also known as yourcalls.net.
I was cold called by these people some years ago when they used to be onebill telecom (or something like that).
I have since on numerous occassions tried to migrate to talktalk and other companies with no success, Tried all the usual stuff like contacting BT because my line was always a BT line, or so i thought, but nobody could tell me why my requests were always being rejected.
But after much frustration and time sitting on the phone asking why, somebody suggested i told talktalk that 24talk use LLU (local loop) lines. And all of a sudden talktalk suggested i needed a new line that was going to cost me £69 before i could migrate.
Be aware that although 24talk offer low line rental, they make money on charging you for things you get for free from other providers. and to top that they do not explain they will use LLU lines and hence cost you much time and money if you want to get back to a btline.
But i'm now really confused because if as i have read here talktalk use LLU lines why do i need to pay £690 -
AFAIK, BT make no charge for taking a line back from a LLU supplier. Apparently, you just have to ask BT for a 'return to donor' transfer.
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/33901737#Comment_33901737Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi Guys,
When moving back from an LLU provider such as ourselves to BT you should not be charged a connection fee.
The Return to Donor process must be a request to BT to reverse migrate your line to the BT OR Network. As BTOR have a duty of care to ensure the supply of service this should be free to the customer, although may be subject to a contract term.

Don't think that's really the case though is it, just that BT Retail don't pass on the Openreach charge at present for conversions. This interesting recent FOI request lays to rest a few of the various misconceptions flying about - http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ofcoms_investigation_of_excessiv#incoming-93215
"When BT Retail (BTR) wins a new telephony customer........the
order is then processed by Openreach (OR) who will charge BTR:
• £2 (ex VAT) if the order is a transfer or takeover (i.e. reactivating an active line,
also call ed a start, or switching from another WLR supplier on the same line);
• £34.86 (ex VAT) if the order is a conversion (i.e. from full LLU (MPF) to WLR); or
• £88 (ex VAT) if the order requires a new line (or elements of a new line).
BTR do not pass on the charges for transfers or conversions." from doc 4 2“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0
