If you decide you really most move your line rental to a new supplier from BT,and the new supplier eg Talk Talk unbundles your line (llu) ,BT will charge you a full connection charge of £125 if you want to move back, even if the wiring ,socket etc is working, because the exchange will have to be rewired.
If you move your line to a new supplier that does not unbundle (llu) eg Tesco then normally you can move back with free connection.

Worthwhile checking on that, we did it this month no charge. Confirmed with BT before we committed to the change though and we did get a new number.0

Was your line an LLU line though? As in its unbundled off the BT network. The only time i think that no charge is incurred is when its still on the network
The OP is correct as the lines work at the exchange means that BT will have to pay Openreach to put the line back from Talk Talks part of the network back onto BT's part of the network in the local exchange0 -
Considering the thread title is about charges for LLU Unbundled Customers I wouldn't have posted if I hadn't been one.;)
Yes, I was with TalkTalk LLU and thankfully no more.0 -

Had to check as its weird for them not to charge0 -
Suppose it's still a rather unusual occurrance for customers to migrate back to BT from unbundled exchanges. Presume trade will pick up once more unbundled TT customers come to the end of their 18 month contracts and look to get a proper phone service.
Perhaps the fact that we got a new number obviated the need for a charge but to be honest none of the sales people we spoke to even hinted that there would be a charge.
We only got in touch with BT to confirm by phone and e-mail that no fee was payable after reading some of the stuff on these boards.0 -
Post no 13 in this thread confirms that BT are quoting some people full price to be reconnected.

Perhaps it can be avoided by changing number, but not everybody would want to do this.0 -
Heh, post 13 confirms only that someone posted that BT are quoting some people full price to be reconnected.
A direct link to some official BT statement would confirm whether the OPs claim is correct or not.
The number change came as a surprise and we didn't quibble as it states clearly in TalkTalks Terms & Conditions that they in effect own your number once you change to them (as does BTs).
Apparently we could keep our number if we had contacted BT before migrating and left TalkTalk in ignorance until the deed was done but that would give TalkTalk plenty of grounds for charging us an exit fee.
May be the case that all this scare-mongering re £125 re-connection fee comes from media coverage quoting Ofcom in which the word "may" has been ommited from the phrase "some people "may" find they are being charged £125 to return to BT".
Again, could be I was lucky but I'm sure those who have actually been charged this £125 to come back to BT from LLU will make their voices heard.
Only posted for the first time because of the authoratitive tone of the OP which in my case, for whatever reasons, was plainly wrong.
Change the "will" to "may" in "BT will charge you a full connection fee" and I've no complaints0 -

Here is a link to BTs official price list. I can't see anything specific about transferring LLU lines to BT but if anyone else wants to have a go....0 -
Saw that list before we did the deed and as you say no mention of LLU.
The only concern BT had with our return was how long ago we migrated from BT to TalkTalk LLU, in our case 15 months for line/calls, 4 months since exchange unbundled.
Nowhere is there a definitive statement from BT regarding this, other posts on this forum saying "he said, she said" don't count
Again, can only speak from our experience which is at odds with the OP and as £125 is not to be sniffed at well worth querying if anyone else is thinking about migrating back to BT.0 -
A friend of mine who wanted to move back from Talk Talk LLU to BT was recently quoted £125 connection charge, when questioned why, BT said wiring needed to be altered in exchange.
Another post here suggests a connection charge will apply.

Surely they cant all be wrong.
Perhaps as has been suggested before you were not charged because you accepted a change of number.
I personally did not find the op scaremongering, i thought it was intended to be helpful.0
