As above tell them to claim on their insurance, do you want to declare this for upto 5 years?

It may not make any difference but why take the risk, its their problem.

Having had 2 windscreen problems (1 repair, 1 replacement) in the year before my last renewal I found that pretty much every insurer now does require you to disclose both as claims. The repair was taken as a zero cost claim but the replacement needed to have at least the excess cost entered. Whether it had any effect on my premium I can't say as I also had a fault claim in the same period which obviously did have an effect.

I'd tell the garage you only have third party cover which doesn't include windscreens then get it replaced somewhere and send them the bill.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I'm with Admiral and have had a look at their policy documents. My NCB isn't affected by a windowscreen replacement - not sure about future premiums tho!!

I've run a couple of dummy quotes and indeed you have to declare windscreen claims as was suggested here. I didn't do a with or without windscreen claim to check the difference in quotes so I'm not sure how much it will affect the final quotes.

I've not done anything about the windscreen yet, as my OH's car is in said garage for repairs and I don't want them to find another problem with his car, iykwim. His bill is nearly 1K as it is.

I'm still debating my options and may just go the insurance route as I don't want a battle with the garage and need to get my car sale ready asap. I'm changing the car in the next few weeks for a 1.0 or 1.25 Fiesta so my insurance costs will plummet anyway.
