Broken Asus tablet warranty

Hi I bought a 20 inch Asus tablet 8/8/14, tablet broke as soon as I got it and Asus fixed it because it was within warranty, I've had never ever problems with it, its now broke again and they are refusing to repair it because its out of warranty by a couple of months and want to charge me a £45 fee, I feel this is outrageous, please can someone advise?

Well, if the warranty is really just pathetic 12 months, your only comeback is against the supplier that you've bought the tablet from: Consumer Rights. Unfortunately, after 6 months it's likely to fob you off and rightfully demand a proof that the fault isn't a result of misuse or damage. If so, you'll need to pay for an independent engineer's report and then demand the cost reimbursed by the supplier later. Possibly, you'll need to go as far as Small Claims Court actions.
  • Surely Asus should sort me out as a goodwill gesture?

If it's that sure, what are warranties for then?

No, they don't know this. Regardless, even with proofs that the fault isn't a result of damage, they can wash their hands as they have no legal obligations to repair it.

I know they don't know this, that was my point.
  • Well quite simply I won't be purchasing an Asus product ever again!

Only Asus? Will you buy Apple? Motorola?
Next time it's worth doing more thorough research then just dismissing one manufacturer. Warranty is one of the first things I would check.

And if more customers enforce their rights against retailers under SoGA instead of biting the bullet, the retailers will possibly will be less eager to sell goods with pathetic manufacturer's warranties.
  • Won't buy Asus ever again, don't buy any Apple due to ethical reasons.

Your contract will not be with Asus, it will be with the vendor. You need to pursue the vendor for restitution.

What is the nature of the failure ?
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.
