Wednesday 18th November - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.:money:

    Hi everyone :wave:

    Thanks for starting us off Ziggy - you are a superstar :A

    The exciting news in the Escy household today is that we owe OH's parents money and they've said we can pay them back monthly rather than getting a loan and paying that back...Still need to sort out the finer details but I think it will work out better for us and them.

    In other news:
    • Crocheting nephew a minions hat :cool: - Link to free pattern http://goo.gl/SF5P3Q
    • Cheapo porridge brekkie
    • £2 lunch limit - nothing for packed lunch today :(
    • Sausages defrosting in fridge - reducing running costs - for sos & mash tonight ;)

    I have a to do list as long as my arm today but I won't bore you with it :rotfl:

    Hope everyone is doing a-ok.

    :beer:
  • Morning all :D
    Thanks for the start Ziggy.
    Can't believe it's only Wednesday - I feel as though I've been working for weeks. Still, it's another day closer to payday, and only another 4 weeks after this before a fortnight off :D
    Here's today's plan.
    :) check banking
    :) read Martin's email
    :) minimise heating use
    :) check through YNAB for the rest of the month
    :) Full teaching day
    :) fill in LoA form to watch ds assembly on Friday
    :) remember to email re covering someone else
    :) leave dh a list of jobs to do
    :) speak to HoD about new marking system
    :) attend meeting after work
    Best head off before I'm late for work - have a good day!

    Morning all!

    Very impressed with myself as I nearly completed yesterday's list - only OnePoll I forgot to do! I also managed a NSD! First in what feels like forever! Plus I threw away a set of broken scales, a pair of sandals which were tatty, a few other little bits and stored away my summer sandals and flip flops!

    I also found an unopened tin of paint (we accidentally bought silk instead of matt and didn't realise until too late to take back), a tin of paint which we did a tester patch and didn't like, and a window vac which I won at bingo. Just need to decide where the best place to sell these would be. Any suggestions?

    Also my friend texted me and asked me to help at another party at the beginning of December, so that will be an extra £20.

    Today I have/will:-
    * Check banks - done
    * Use £1.01 received from TCB to pay off CC - done
    * Read Martin's email - done
    * No TV on this morning - done
    * Submit meter readings - done
    * Turn off TV and Sky box in spare bedroom at the wall - done
    * Take cottage pie out of freezer - done
    * Check FPL - done (must remember to check again later)
    * Do washing up - done
    * Move TV so dad can finish skirting the living room - done
    * Take pic of flooring we have (need one more pack to finish hall) so that I can find cheapest place online - done
    * Take lunch to work - done
    * Update signature, snowball and spreadsheet - done
    * Charge phone in work - in progress
    * Put date of party in diary - done
    * Earn more on OnePoll
    * Find cheapest flooring
    * Go for a walk at lunch if not too windy
    * Dinner from stores
    * Dust bedroom
    * Sort out under bed in spare bedroom
    * Wipe down shower glass after use
    * Throw away birthday cards which I know I shoved in the bag of paperwork - maybe I'll actually sort out the paperwork sometime soon! :rotfl:
    * Find more bits to throw out/recycle/sell

    Think that's everything for now. Hoping for another productive evening!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,100
    Total paid off - £10,500.89 (67% paid off)

    No time for a proper post, but just read yours re using spring onions. If you're doing mashed potatoes, you can make 'champ' by frying the chopped up onions in a small amount of olive oil, and add them to the mash. Lovely with sausages, although we only eat vege ones.

    Morning guys :D thanks for the start Ziggy second La E's superstar calling :A

    Back to reality today. Got back from Holland last night. Was great to have a few days away and it was low cost :T

    Plans for the day include:

    * check banking - am afraid to...
    * read martin's email
    * [STRIKE]sausages out of freezer for dinner[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]not sure what the weather is doing, might just take dgd for a walk in the woods later[/STRIKE] she's a funny bean! Was waiting to hear from dd whether she was coming or not. By the time I had realised she wasn't it was the afternoon and dgd was a bit cranky so we went in the garden for a bit (collecting leaves for leaf mould ;), 'watered' some plants, and did a little tidying. We've just finished a tea party and now she has gone up to her room and made a fort in her cot - I suspect - and hope - she'll have a mini nap :A
    * [STRIKE]dying hair at home[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]texted someone to see if they still want to buy something from me[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]messaged db to confirm about swearing an oath with a solicitor on Friday - almost last step the in the probate [/STRIKE]
    * photo and list these blinking things on fleabay!
    * need to write up log of contacts/missed contacts between dd & dgd
    * work out what I need to do with Inland Rev re Msing
    *[STRIKE] check for ms ops[/STRIKE] didn't need to as they contacted me and I have agreed to do 5 over the next week for £85 - outlay and petrol will be about £30
    * do job search. My neighbour has just told me about some cleaning work vacancies where she is. It's evening work. Will look into it but do I really want to do that????
    * make flapjacks - decided not to bother as dgd was given some marshmellows yesterday so she can have one of those in her pack lunch tomorrow instead ;)
    *[STRIKE] some time in the garden. Really not much left to now :j[/STRIKE]

    Ok that seems more than I can possibly do!
    DF as at 30/12/16
    Wombling 2026: £25.70
    Grocery spend challenge Feb £285.11/£250
