Cancelled school trip

The threat is greater now than it was last week with the Military action taken in response to last Friday, this is not going to change in the next few months that's why the French Ministry are taking steps to extend the State of Emergency for the next 3 months, maybe longer.
I take your point on my "minimal" statement as throughout the western world there have been numerous attacks, when I was writing I was actually just thinking of France but stated further afield, France have had a number of small arm attacks as well as the Metro bombing but I think the deaths were only just in double figures. It's a whole new ball game now, they have dangerous home grown brainwashed fanatics who now have rich backers.
I don't scare easy I'm the wife of a 24 year Army vet but I certainly wouldn't be prepared to send my child on a school trips to France in the coming months or maybe years.
Who says the threat is greater now? I've already told you that a state of emergency is an administrative hurdle and not particularly relevant to this. As you would have noticed if you listened to the news reports a bit harder, it's a constitutional issue and they're seeking to resolve it ASAP (i.e. they don't actually want to use the power even now - let alone in February).
Clearly you do scare easily then considering you're more scared than almost everyone else here!0 -
"The UK Foreign Office has advised British schools against upcoming trips to France, in line with advice given by the French authorities after the Paris attacks."

That's been mentioned several times already... And I take it you didnt actually read it given the headline itself says it only advises against travel this week.0 -

I did read it Callum, and having done so I thought a direct link to the Guardian article might help inform the debate0 -
What terrorist? You realise that more children have been killed in the West by non Islamic terrorists than Islamic terrorists do you? More children died in the Dunblane massacre than died in 9/11. Far more children died in the Norwegian massacre than in Paris, London, Madrid and New York put together.
The Islamic terrorists have targeted rush hour commuters, business people and adults on nights out. Are you going to commute in the rush hour? Are you going to go to see heavy metal bands or eat out after 930pm?
You're in more danger in the UK commuting to work. Or to school. So best stay indoors wrapped in cotton wool. Or perhaps build a bomb proof bunker in your back garden.
Apparently most Paris schools were open today. Their teachers and pupils must be really brave.
There's a considerable difference between going to school, ie ordinary life, and a trip, ie wandering around in tourist areas.
Hollande has stopped French school trips.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Why would a link to a newspaper article help to inform the debate, when a link to the official government website (which the Guardian took their info from) was posted 2 days ago? It's irrelevant to travel in February anyway.0

It states very clearly in the article you've quoted that upcoming means "until after Sunday 22 November" - ie. tomorrow.0 -

Hollande has stopped French school trips.
The recent events in Paris didn't involve tourist areas - just places Parisians visit as part of their ordinary lives. That was the whole point.0 -

Yes, there is. It's people living their ordinary lives in residential areas of Paris who have been targeted, not tourists in tourist areas.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
