I've been with SO energy for two years. I'm about to renew again as the rate for the new SO Turtle has hardly changed from previous SO Llama.

Another reason for staying with SO energy is that I have regular meter readings and bills every month, I can choose whether to have the same monthly direct debit amount or seasonal one's. Their customer service is very good and this is very important. The other cheaper suppliers are in their infancy and have no trading record, so I prefer staying at the moment for less hassle. :)

    Hi Simply Ted
Like you, I was on SO Llama, and will change tariff this month. Two months ahead of the Llama expiry I was offered the Stingray tariff. It was about £2/month less than I was paying, and I accepted.

Then came Toucan, which SO Energy did not tell me about, and was about £6/month less than I was paying. Then came Turtle, which was almost exactly the same as I was paying.
Now, it may be that SO are just responding to market price movements, but as customers looking for the best deal I would say it pays to check regularly with Cheap Energy Club to see what new tariffs are being offered by your *current* supplier, as well as by other companies.

    Hello GH13,

You are right, we are simply responding to the wholesale energy market. As the cost of us purchasing the energy changes so does our tariff to reflect this.

Recently energy prices have been quite volatile hence tariffs changing more regularly that we would like. We do feel that it important we make changes to pricing as soon as the wholesale market changes.

Regardless of wholesale changes our commitment is that our one fixed rate tariff will always be within the cheapest 10% and comes with a promise that we will do everything possible to deliver brilliant service to everyone

Our advice to all customers, new and existing is to always check out the market. Your advice and our advice is well aligned!

    Thanks
    Nilesh

Nilesh, I am coming to the end of my fixed contract for electricty with another supplier. I am in a position to use a referral from an existing customer of yours - can you confirm that the £40 cashback as per your website is applicable to a move of electricity supply only?

I note that the So Energy rep has not been on this site since their last post above in July.

Not that that necessarily indicates anything, as I see today is your first post in over 8 years
    Welcome back! :T

Are you referring to the So Energy Refer a Friend scheme?
If so, the full tersm and conditions can be found on their website here:

    https://www.so.energy/refer-terms

    Note in particular:
1.5 Reward: The Reward will vary by campaign. The active campaign for a Referrer is shown on their Refer a friend page which can be accessed via their online account portal (www.so.energy/accounts/refer).
    and
2.14 The particular Reward to which a Referrer and Referred Friend are entitled will be the Reward advertised to the Referred Friend at the time they use the Referrer’s Personal Link to switch energy supply to us. Rewards may change from time to time and different Users may be entitled to different Rewards.

So your referrer should be able to clarify that question for you :)

As no one else has posted meantime I imagine that there was no need. I am banking on there being an automatic notification of a post in the thread to bring him back.

Just because one doesn't post doesn't mean that you don't visit ;)

I looked through the terms but couldn't find my question addressed/answered hence my post (I have also emailed So Energy CS but have not had a reply).

Indeed, and just because you haven't used that particular user account for 8 years doesn't mean you haven't been posting in the meantime on MSE either, does it?

    Should've gone to Specsavers!

    Other opticians are available
... but you should still have gone to Specsavers! :D

No, the answer to that particular question is not there to be found.

Btw, & fwiw, in case anybody else has the same question So Energy CS replied to my email & it doesn't matter whether you bring over 1 service or both you are entitled to the same cashback amount.

    Hello Buff,

Apologise for my delayed reply. Correct on both accounts

    1) Switching just one fuel does still entitle you to the £40 credit. This will be applied to your account and your friends account on your supply start date. If you later choose to switch a second fuel i.e gas you are not eligible for another £40 credit.

    2) Just because I haven't posted in a while doesn't mean we don't look. In fact myself and the team regularly check multiple forums where customers may need our assistance :money:

Any issues just let us know. Thanks for going green!

    Regards
    Nilesh

Is there any timescale on smart metering at So Energy?

Just about to switch to you and, whilst I don’t mind reading my meters, it would make life easier if you supported smart meters (SMETS2 fwiw).
